Brachial nerve palsy: I recommend seeing a doctor for a history and physical exam. Pleuritis: Sharp pain in the left shoulder and chest and extending all of the way down the left arm in a 44-year-old should at least be evaluated to rule out cardiac ischemia. If you are not having any problem with your heart then likely you have a pleuritis, a costochondritis, a rotator cuff tear or a cervical radicular pain. Rt Arm Pain & Weak: Sometimes pathology in your neck can cause symptoms like this out of the blue (disc bulges or protrusions). Stenosis (narrowing around the nerves) can do this but usually see this in much older patients. Nerves that appear to be involved in your hand are C6, C7, & C8. If you meant shoulder joint down, then C5 may be an issue too. UCC or ER can prescribe Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack. See if arm gets going. ...Read more
Needs workup: You may require neck films & possibly an electrical study of the left arm to localize the problem & see if a nerve is being pinched of some sort...certainly sounds possible from your symptoms. May be fracture: Should see a dr, urgent care that can do xrays ok, for exam and imaging if warranted to be sure that warm feeling with moderate pain is not a broken bone. Joint and/or nerves: Severe pain triggered by arm elevation suggests a joint problem. Rotator cuff injury can do this. However, the brachial plexus is a collection of nerves under the clavicle that can cause severe shooting pains into the upper arm. Inflammation of the plexis can produce symptoms as you describe.
