Could post and core for a full arch be done for broken tooth below gum line?

Could post and core for a full arch be done for broken tooth below gum line?

More info needed: I'm somewhat unclear about your question and the information given. Specifically regarding the words, "for a full arch". Is one tooth supposed to support a full arch restoration? Or do you have a full arch of broken teeth below the gumline? Teeth fractured or decayed below the gumline are normally best extracted as the long term prognosis is poor. You would need to be personally examined w x-rays. ...Read more

NO: Most of the time, crown lengthening, a process of which the surrounding gum and bone will be removed to expose at least 2-3mm of root structure for the crown attached to. Post and core alone only used to transfer the occlusal force during function into the root area. Post and core cannot help with the crown retention. If the remaining root is too short, extraction and implant tx is the best. ...Read more

What is this thing on my gums? I have had a hard bone like growth on my bottom front tooth it seems to be connected to the broken tooth which is there. There was an abscess a long time ago that burst and left a hole in my gum. Now the broken tooth

Hard : Hard to tell sight unseen and without a radiograph, but it sounds like the abcess and broken tooth you left untreated for such a long time has created a substancial amount of bone loss around that tooth. It could be that the root end is poking through the hole in your bone and sticking into your gum tissue.

Not a healthy situation.

Obviously you understand that you need to go see a dentist to have the tooth extracted. The dentist who extracts the tooth will determine if it is indeed the root end or something else. Please go and be seen as soon as possible to avoid further complications or massive infection. ...Read more

One who restores: Whoever restores the site would be preferred to do the extraction. Often after extraction an implant may be placed, or an ovate pontic can be place as part of a bridge, or even a small partial or flipper. These procedures may be affected by the outcome of the extraction and thus whoever doing the implant would do the extraction. ...Read more

Well, : Well, if you haven't been to the dentist in the last 25 years, now you have a reason to go. I do not recommend that you remove your own tooth. The dentist will do xrays and will determine the extent of damage before making the best medical recommendation. There can be serious repercussions from a badly fractured tooth that goes unrepaired. There are also issues with just pulling a tooth- because other teeth can shift into it's place. ...Read more

Portion of tooth broke off a couple of weeks ago; there was no pain. A large piece has now broken off as well - still no pain. How could this happen? There is just a small stub left at the gum line. I'm afraid to ask how expensive this repair will be.

See : See your dentist for an examination and xray to determine if the tooth is indeed salvageable. If the tooth did not have a previous root canal (which removes the nerve) the other likely possibility is that the tooth nerve has died (... We call it necrotic). The necrotic tissue within the canal over time can lead to an infection, pain and swelling. Don't ignore it now because it doesn't hurt. At a minimum find out what treatment is necessary and if it is too extensive or expensive consider having the tooth extracted (as opposed to waiting for it to develop into a bad toothache). ...Read more

I'm having a filling done on my front tooth near the gum line. Will the shot be more painful, and will the filling be noticeable?

End result-worth it: Many patients' biggest fears have to do with injections. The area (of the upper front teeth) is a very tender and sensitive area to anesthetize. Talk to your dentist about valium and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation. Both are very effective at reducing anxiety and ultimately discomfort. But, cosmetic restorations, when properly placed, are virtually invisible to most people who look at you. ...Read more
