What are some of the symptoms of a broken thumb?

Swelling and Pain: If your experiencing swelling, pain, decreased range of motion or anything out of the ordinary for you and it lasts more than a few days then get it checked by your doctor. Use the rice method to help- rest, ice, compression and elevation. Your whole hand's function is dependent on your thumb. If your thumb doesn't work, neither will your hand. I would get an x-ray if not better in 3-5 days.

What are the typical symptoms of a sprained thumb?

What are the typical symptoms of a sprained thumb?

Pain and swelling: Sprains of joints such as the thumb cause pain with motion as the injured structures around the joint are stretched or compressed. Generalized swelling of the joint involved is also a very common complaint. The swelling is bothersome but can be somewhat protective early on in that the swelling functionally limits motion and acts as an internal "brace". Bruising about the thumb is also common.

Moderate sprain.: A grade 1 RCL sprain is mild & not associated with loss of the thumb MCP joint stability. A grade 2 sprain usually involves a lot of pain & swelling. There could be bruising around the thumb & possible laxity of the joint. A grade 3 sprain can be very painful, & there is complete disruption of the joint, leading to joint instability. See a doctor for proper Dx & Rx of your thumb sprain.

I have a clubbed thumb, I would feel bad if I pass this syndrome on to my children. Would it be possible to filter out the defect?

I have a clubbed thumb, I would feel bad if I pass this syndrome on to my children. Would it be possible to filter out the defect?

Not possible: It is my understanding that clubbed thumb is caused by a recessive gene that may have been passed down hidden for generations until matched by the genes of the other parent, to now manifest. It is not possible at this time to alter the genes in one's eggs or sperm and this gene will be passed on but has less than 25% chance of showing in your children, even if their other parent is a carrier.

Thumb started twitching today, you can see it twitch on and off should I be worried no other symptoms?

Thumb started twitching today, you can see it twitch on and off should I be worried no other symptoms?

Watch and wait: You may watch and wait. If the twitching spreads to other parts of the body or is still there three weeks from now, it would be time to see a doctor. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

My little girl hit her thumb on the wall, if it was broke or jammed would it swell or turn blueish? Or could there be no symptoms & still be hurt?

Probably normal: It does not sound like it is anything to be concerned about. If she were to start having swelling or it turned blue, you should bring her to be seen. It is unlikely that it would be hurt with no symptoms.

Hi, I have splinter hemorrhages on both thumbs but have no other symptoms. Can this be endocarditis.

Hi, I have splinter hemorrhages on both thumbs but have no other symptoms. Can this be endocarditis.

Possible - unlikely: Splinter hemorrhages can be a sign of endocarditis, although they will generally then appear with lots of other signs and symptoms. However, they can also appear with various other conditions. In isolation, as you are describing, endocarditis sounds very unlikely but further evaluation may be worthwhile.
