It is better to: Check it out, some time this sign for fracture and that fracture could effect the joint and need something done about it. Good luck thank you.

Hand surgeon: A hand surgeon is best qualified to evaluate, advise and, if needed, to treat this problem. This may simply be scar tissue formation, but since it's tender and over a joint, it's just as well that he has it checked.

My friend is developing rough and dark patches over only his middle finger knuckles on both hands. Not painful. What could be the possible cause.?

Activity related: Most likely overexertion from long hours on computer. Stiff? Itchy? Could also be dryness/eczema. Tried cortisone cream? Tried moisturizer? Other thoughts; fungal skin infection? See your famdoc if curious.

My pointer finger and middle finger knuckle is in pain. When I slightly bend them or even when a move my wrist. I was punching my bag not to long ago?

Contusion: Sounds like probably a contusion and/or sprain. Rest, ice, and elevate the fingers, and of course avoid the punching bag until you improve. If pain is severe or persists, then of course see a physician to have x-rays done.

Yes I'm having some pain in my middle finger when I bend it and it hurts to touch it on the left side of the finger on the knuckle. There is no swelling?

Finger pain: That joint may be inflamed of sprained from injury of overuse. Lack of redness would tend to rule out an infectious process. You could try taking an anti-inflammatory medication like Advil of Aleve for a week. If symptoms persist I recommend consultation with a hand surgeon for diagnosis and treatment.

I punched a wall, and now my knuckles hurt, when I lift my middle finger it feels odd. And when I rub it it feels and sounds... Scratchy?

I punched a wall, and now my knuckles hurt, when I lift my middle finger it feels odd. And when I rub it it feels and sounds... Scratchy?

Ice and xray: If you did this within 48 hours apply an ice pack (20 min on and 20 min off) if you did this two days ago try moist heat. See a doctor for an xray to rule out fracture of bone and tendon damage...And quit punching walls ;).

Hi, I feel a little bump on top of my middle finger just above my knuckle, & is extremely painful/aches when I rub or put pressure on it?

Hi, I feel a little bump on top of my middle finger just above my knuckle, & is extremely painful/aches when I rub or put pressure on it?

In that: Location a number of possibilities. ...a ganglion (small herniation of a tendon in its sheath), neuroma (benign growth from a nerve) and a bone SPUR (Exostosis)
Get it checked out by your PCP who may wish to refe you to a hand specialist.
Hope this helps

Tendon at the middle finger knuckle slips out of place and hurts too. Dr said that it happens because it gets weaker there because of my Lupus. Agree?

Hand surgeon: I recommend that you consult a hand surgeon as there is a high probability that ongoing problems will lead to permanent joint damage and possible chronic pain in that finger.

Swelling is fluid: This is a simplistic answer but. ....Usually blood (bruising) or cellular fluid (from cell damage) or fluid from within the blood (vessels stimulated to leak inflammatory fluids) ice, move your fingers, male a fist and extend fully even if it is tight, elevate just a little higher than your heart location (chaness as you change position).

Insect bite?: Sounds like you've either been bitten by something or contacted something irritated on your skin. Alternatively, you may have a skin infection starting such as a cellulitis of some sort. I think you should have this looked at in short order by a doctor. They want to start treatment of some sort...at least something symptomatic for the discomfort. Good luck.

As: As noted, you need an proper examination and plain xrays. The possiblities include a fracture of the metacarpal bone underneath that joint or perhaps ligament injuries (either structures called collateral ligaments or saggital hood). Many of these things can be treated easily if diagnosed early -.

I just woke up and the first knuckle around nail of my middle finger is swollen and red and hard to bend.?

I just woke up and the first knuckle around nail of my middle finger is swollen and red and hard to bend.?

Needs to be seen: Whether it is an infection, an acute arthritis, or you injured it while sleeping can't be determined from my computer. A visit to a medical care giver should easily find the cause and the treatment.

I punched a wall and im not sure if my middle finger or knuckle is broken, how do I know? And how do I tell my parents about it

Hand bruise: As you think about things--make sure ice is applied as much as possible over the first 48 hours. If pain and swelling persists--you will need an xray. If the middle finger appears straight and not deviated--treatment would be buddy taping to the closest finger. Tell your parents early on rather than late. You will feel glad you confessed your mistake

What is normal recovery time? I 've been splinting my knuckle on the middle finger where it meets the hand 5 weeks. I have minimal improvement.

What is normal recovery time? I 've been splinting my knuckle on the middle finger where it meets the hand 5 weeks. I have minimal improvement.

What is the problem?: I suspect you may have a trigger finger. If so splinting may take several weeks. A steroid injection may help this problem. Frequently surgical release is necessary.

A few months ago I jammed my middle finger catching a football incorrectly. I was cracking my knuckles resently and had an intense pain in that spot?

X-rays: Hi! Injuries like this can sometimes cause small fractures (broken bones), torn/strained tendons, or torn/sprained ligaments. X-rays are a good first step, and a primary care physician (either here on HealthTap or in person) can help arrange that for you.
