It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

Pain at outside of foot near arch when i take a step. Is this plantar fasciitis? Have previous diagnosis - never understood. Feels like broken bone.
I am in a boot for a broken bone in my foot. Wearing a boot made my spondydislothesis, which hadn't been a problem, cause sciatica. Help!?
Spondylolisthesis: was always there long before the boot was on your foot. Likely the change in your gait caused it to pinch the nerve exiting out of that level. I would suggest you see a pain/spine fellowship trained specialist. You may be a candidate for an epidural steroid injection. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I had a heavy piece of metal hit my foot 3 weeks ago. The top of my foot is tight, with a large bump and hurts. Im wondering if I have a broken bone if it's worth to go to a med clinic for care as I don't have heath insurance?
Yes, but.....: A painful bump from trauma is usually a good reason to get checked by your doctor or urgent care. However, a presumed fracture that is 3 weeks old has likely "partially" healed. Nonetheless, best to have it checked as a non-union of a fracture could be occurring. Btw-whether one has insurance or not does not play a role in what is best for health. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My son has a lump.on top of L foot. It feels like bone but hurts to touch. Went to ER and xray showed no broken bone. Dr said give it 10 days and ice/use crutches, probably sprain. Pain comes and goes for him. Consult orthopedic dr? Worried tumor?
Likely not serious: Sometimes kids or adults will develop a bundle of coatings around a nerve traveling through the skin. These nodules or cysts stretch the fibers & can cause pain occasionally but are not like a bone cancer or infection.A bone bruise might produce a similar bump but it would become hard & gradually fade over months. A podiatrist or orthopedic surgeon could confirm/exclude this label & discuss treatm ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is a severe burning sensation normal after a broken bone? My mom broke her ankle 3 weeks ago and is now having severe burning sensations on the top of her foot. She says it feels like an iron or hot pokers are touching it. Her doctor loosened the bandages
While : While it may be expected to have some discomfort, there are some types of pain that may signify something amiss. Burning or electrical type pain is often described as "nerve pain", meaning there has been something that has occurred to a nerve in the area in question. Sensation to the top of the foot is from the superficial and deep peroneal nerves. The superficial peroneal nerve may have been stretched at the time of the original injury, compressed by dressings or injured a the time of surgery (you didn't mention whether she had had a surgery for the fracture. It may be specfic to this nerve or may come to encompass the entire foot/ankle in what some doctors call a complex regional pain syndrome. Ask your doctor about this. There are some medications that have been shown to help this sort of pain. A pain relief doctor (a subspecialty of anesthesia) may be consulted as well. ...Read more
