Broken Ankle Pain Years Later
Many possibilities: R.I.C.E. Rest, ice, compression, elevation. Immobilization with a cast, splint or brace may be needed in the initial phase of recovery. Oral anti-inflammatory medication may help with the pain and swelling. Once improved, mobilization and physical therapy can help restore strength and function. Healing times may vary.See 3 more doctor answers
Screw removal time: Usually removal of older fixation screws in the ankle is a simple procedure and recovery is fairly easy as long as your bones are healthy. After the screws are removed, it is prudent to use a CAM walker for about 2 weeks to allow the bones to recover any strength lost from the openings that remain. Pain after removal is usually minimal from the skin incisions.
Broke ankle years ago. Started having pain, numbness and swelling. Is this related to the broken ankle or something new. Do not remember twisting it?
Broken ankle in '92. Stretched a nerve. No problems until recent years. Now, burning in top of foot espec. At night. Did nerve regenerate?
3 years go=broken ankle & screwes sprained my akle playing tennis in auguet and it's still swollen. Had me in a cast. Is this normal?
Possibly: I think you're saying you had screws placed for a broken ankle 3 years ago, and now you've sprained your ankle last august and it's still swollen. I actually warn my patients that after bad ankle injuries (in your case, 2 of them), the swelling may actually never go away, but as long as your ankle is functional and painless and strong, I would not worry about some persistent swelling.See 2 more doctor answers
Bad knee pain after broken ankle? Dislocated knee two years prior to ankle break. Now it feels like the knee is being pushed out of place when I walk?
I ended up in the ER Monday night, I had a migraine and intense burning pain in my neck and shoulder. They had an osteo dr evaluate me. He said my whole body is out of alignment from a broken ankle 13 years ago that didn't heal correctly, it turns inward.
Burning top of foot near big toe where stretched nerve years ago after broken ankle. Also bone spurs in ball of foot. What to do for burning pain?
Possible soft tissue: I have seen this many times. The ankle can become stiff and painful after a fracture. Sometimes it can be from a tendon or a ligament that was also damaged at the time of the fracture or it can also be from a problems with the cartilage in the joint if the fracture involved the joint line itself. I am biased, but a physiatrist (physical medicine and rehab) can evaluate and help with this.See 1 more doctor answer
I am 1 year post op for removing a screw that was put in for a broken ankle, and I still have pain when I walk for a long time. Can therapy help?
Possibly: If the initial ankle injury involved the joint surface, pain can persist for a long time. Anytime a joint is involved in injury it is possible for post traumatic arthritis to set in. If no joint involvement then stability and functional issues can create pain, both of which are improved with physical therapy. Bracing and orthotics can provide functional stability and pain reduction also.
Broken ankle last year. Numbness on sole of foot and when I raise my toes it feels like block in paw of foot op block damaged nerve. Can it be fixed?
Ask your surgeon, or: If your surgeon doesn't think it can be repaired, don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion. Also, was it numb since the surgery or just lately? If lately, you can have a Morton's Neuroma in your foot that causes tingling and pain and can certainly be treated. (It's a painful bundle of nerves.)See 2 more doctor answers
I am experiencing very painful skin/muscle/nerve pain at the site of broken ankle a year on from op. It is not joint pain. Why is this? Trapped nerve?
No: Keeping pressure off the area will help in the healing process.
No, but: It may slow the healing process. Swelling may cause congestion of blood flow. If blood flow is hindered healing will not be optimized. For help with this: www. Orthodoc. Aaos. Org/footankle.See 2 more doctor answers
