3 years go=broken ankle & screwes sprained my akle playing tennis in auguet and it's still swollen. Had me in a cast. Is this normal?

Possibly: I think you're saying you had screws placed for a broken ankle 3 years ago, and now you've sprained your ankle last august and it's still swollen. I actually warn my patients that after bad ankle injuries (in your case, 2 of them), the swelling may actually never go away, but as long as your ankle is functional and painless and strong, i would not worry about some persistent swelling. ...Read more

6 weeks since sim broken fibula and ankle sprain. Still have some pain, swelling and numbness at fx site.Normal? Still have cam walker

Yes: It normally takes 10 to 12 weeks for the fibula to heal. Swelling is a common feature during tissue recovery and healing which can last 6 to 8 months or longer. It generally is not permanent. Numbness relates to a stretching injury event to the nerves at the time of your fracture. Be patient with issues of swelling. This is normal. Pain is also normal at this time. Possible fractured/broken/sprained ankle, need better information on how to properly diagnose and a second opinion. ?

The diagnosis can then be confirmed by use of the many forms of imaging, like an x-ray. The treatment options will then be given and you then decide to accept the treatment plan or not. You are free to ask for and seek a second opinion, if you so desire. ...Read more

How can I tell if my ankle is broken or just sprained. Haden sprain had a sprained ankle once before but this feels different should I go to the emerg?

Hard to say : It can be difficult to tell the difference between an ankle that is sprained verses one that is broken, and if there is a doubt, i would certainly get checked.
