Is it true that olive leaf extract kill viruses and retroviruses like HIV and htlv?

Is it true that olive leaf extract kill viruses and retroviruses like HIV and htlv?

Doesn't matter: I don't know, but it really doesn't matter. There are lots of things that kill hiv, such as soap and water. Killing HIV isn't the answer. The answer is to stop HIV from replicating and to be able to eliminate latent infection, which olive leaf extract won't do. ...Read more

Is it true that trisomy 13 caused by inbreeding?

Is it true that trisomy 13 caused by inbreeding?

Not true: Trisomy 13 (3 copies of chromosome 13 in all your cells) is caused by an error in the way one of your two chromosome 13s move when you make an egg or a sperm. It's called nondisjunction. When it happens, it's no one's fault. Marriage between close relatives, like 1st cousins, is common in many places in the world, and trisomy 13 is just as rare there as it is everywhere else. ...Read more

Can we consider atavism human tail as clear proof we had a common ancestor and evolution is true? Why does atavism human tail occur in some new borns?

Can we consider atavism human tail as clear proof we had a common ancestor and evolution is true? Why does atavism human tail occur in some new borns?

Common DNA: Dna sequencing provides convincing evidence of common ancestry, and our physical characteristics are determined by genes that are shared among many species. All human embryos begin with a tail like structure that is absorbed into the body by birth. In some babies the absorption is incomplete leaving a vestigial tail. All humans have a coccyx, or tail bone, the sole surviving remnant of our tail. ...Read more

Hpv has been a topic in our biology syllabus. I have heard that HPV lies dormant in 80% of the global population but it not expressed. True / false ?

Hpv has been a topic in our biology syllabus. I have heard that HPV lies dormant in 80% of the global population but it not expressed. True / false ?

Simplistic: There are dozens of different strains of hpv. Almost everybody has met one or another of the strains that cause skin warts. Here's hoping that either you do not meet the strains that cause cancer of the penis, or if you do meet ig, that you don't develop it, or if you do develop it, that you get the lesions excised before it can hurt you badly. ...Read more

I have m. Fermentans infection. On pubmed, it reads that m. Fermentans causes "immortalization of pbmc's". Doesn't this imply blood cell cancer? Cll?

I have m. Fermentans infection. On pubmed, it reads that m. Fermentans causes "immortalization of pbmc's". Doesn't this imply blood cell cancer? Cll?

Really????: Pbmc's is an archaic word for peripheral blood mononuclear cells. In the 2005 paper, this mycoplasma merely selected for cells immortalized by epstein-barr. The mechanism by no means complete any transformation to cancer. Trying to self-diagnose as a non-phsician based on the internet -- including papers in obscure journals -- does a disservice to everyone. ...Read more

Is it true that men are higher on autism spectrum?

Is it true that men are higher on autism spectrum?

Not sure of question: It absolutely is the case that many more males than females have autism--in the order of 4-5 times more. Why is not known, but it actually is pretty common in child mental health: a wide range of early-onset disorders, including adhd, learning disorders, and autism, are much more common in males than in females. That said, females can definitely have autism of the same severity as males. ...Read more

As soon as genes are transferred during gene splicing, they become part of the receiving organism's genes is this true?

As soon as genes are transferred during gene splicing, they become part of the receiving organism's genes is this true?

What is a splice?: You are talking about genetic modification? Gene splicing is not a biological process, but a lab manipulation to add genes into an existing genome. It requires a biochemical treatment to happen. Once the genes are spliced in, they may be passed by mitosis (in yeast) and by meiosis (in people and mammals, etc.). When they are spliced into an adult person (theoretical) they are not passed on. ...Read more

Urine culture has mixed growth of 4 bacteria species isolated. Viable count: <10 (small letter 4) /ml probably contaminants. What does this mean to me?

Urine culture has mixed growth of 4 bacteria species isolated. Viable count: <10 (small letter 4) /ml probably contaminants. What does this mean to me?

Meaningless: Almost certainly this means 1) you don't have a urinary tract infection and 2) the urine specimen was not a good "clean catch"; all those bacteria almost certainly come from your vaginal opening, labia, etc. (That's why the lab called them "probably contaminants".) ...Read more

How could diatomaceous earth human food grade affect pica? Will it increase the pica?

How could diatomaceous earth human food grade affect pica? Will it increase the pica?

Diatomaceous earth: Some people tout food-grade diatomaceous earth as a digestive cleanser. It will not be harmful, but i'm not sure it's really needed. Pica involves compulsively eating non-nutritive substances like clay and dirt. The makers of food grade diatomaceous earth claim that use of their products may even help pica, rather than increasing it. I could find no studies addressing this -- sorry! ...Read more

I heard a mutant gene caused diarrhea. Is that from frankenfoods?

I heard a mutant gene caused diarrhea. Is that from frankenfoods?

Nah: Some diarrheal illnesses related to abnormal genes, e.g. Celiac sprue, crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis. Most are not; they are not caused by frankenfoods. Some bacteria, like c. Difficile, can have a mutant gene that makes it more dangerous, by making more and more dangerous toxin (also not from frankenfoods). Antibiotics in the food chain can make more drug resistant germs that cause diarr. ...Read more
