Bright Red Rectal
Had sigmoidoscopy for months of bright red rectal bleeding. Haven't had bleeding for two years now but am worried still. No other symptoms. ?
Play it safe!: Any bright red blood per rectum is abnormal. This may be as simple as a hemorrhoid problem or as ominous as crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. I would be worried. Consider that the blood could have come from farther up than the sigmoidoscope reached -- you could have a big problem that went undiagnosed. Allay your fears and get a full colonoscopy to be sure -- the reassurance is worth the cost. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Bright red rectal bleeding 2.5 years ago that lasted on and off 3 weeks with painful bowels. Have had no blood since.24 y/o. Do i need to see a dr?
Wife - experiencing bright red rectal bleeding. She has been diagnosis with hemorrhoids, but this time it is excessive. Is there an immediate risk?
Possibly: If the bleeding will not stop then she should go to the emergency room. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to die from hemorrhoidal bleeding. When i was an intern i pled my case regarding a patient that i was taking care of and it fell on deaf ears. The woman was dead by the next morning. The resident above me refuse to believe that someone could die from hemorrhoids and was looking further up in the gut for the source of bleeding when it was so obvious to me that the massive hemorrhaging was coming from the hemorrhoids. Have also seen one of my own psychiatric patients almost die for the same reason. She was discharged from the hospital with massive hemorrhoidal bleeding. Surgeons want to put off the surgery until monday.I had her husband stay up with her all night to observe her bleeding and when the massive bleeding started up again he got her to the emergency room her life was saved in time. The surgeons had tocome in on a sunday to operate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Bright red rectal bleeding stopped 2.5 years ago -- had sigmoidoscopy then and didn't see anything. Does cancer usually continue to bleed?
Hemorrhoids: Bright red blood may signify a hemorrhoid and that was self limiting. The sigmoidoscopy showed that no cancer was present in the sigmoid colon. Your doctor wanted to know your family history of cancer and cancer would continue to have episodes over 2+ years. Talk with your doctor to discuss your concerns. People need a screening colonoscopy at 50 or sooner with a risk factor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Do colon cancers continue to bleed or do they stop? Haven't had rectal bleeding for over a year but did have bright red rectal blood before. I'm 26.
Typically yes: If the bleeding you had one year ago was due to colon cancer, you would have had a number of progressive symptoms by now, so i wouldn't worry (plus colon cancer is very uncommon at age 26). If however bleeding recurs or persist have it evaluated. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Pencil Thin stools. Very little amount of bright red rectal bleeding. abdominal pain. could it be colon cancer? Im 18 years old. (No cancer in family)
You need an exam: although it would be rare in someone your age to have colon cancer, especially without a family history, you should definitely be seen and examined by a qualified colorectal surgeon or GI... if you are also having sharp anal pain with BMs you might have something simple like an anal fissure, which can also cause bleeding and (occasionally) pencil thin stools. ...Read more

Son had v.high temp & went to Dr yest. (dx viral). Has slight raised red spotty rash all over, thought related to temp but temp ok now. Should I worry?
If you wish..but no: A rash after a fever often represents the end result of the immune response to a viral illness. Antibodies made to capture and neutralize the virus do so and head to the skin surface because it is cooler. The antibody+virus then leak from capillaries into what you see as spots under the skin. While the virus circulates fever is up, removed=down. Pattern often suggests the type of virus. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
