What would you recommend for extremely dry, cracked lips with a red ring around the mouth. Been this way for 6 months and used doxycycline and elidel.
Lip dryness: First you need to stop using all topical stuff on your lips, such as lip balm, lipstick, etc. It can be a contact dermatitis. I would only use vaseline and Elidel twice a day. How long?: You will need to find out if you are allergic or irritated by the products you are using on you lips. You are also more likely to have chapped lips if you lick your lips often or breathe through your mouth most of the time due to nasal congestion. Vaseline: You might want to try switching to a vaseline based lip moisturizer that's softer than chapstick. Even plain vaseline or aquaphor might be helpful.
