If I stop taking Breo will it make my breathing more difficult. I couldn't afford to pay for it.

Hard to speculate: The need for or benefit of any medication is based on individual needs. You have not provided any information on why it was prescribed or what your daily symptom pattern or lung function studies are. How this will affect your daily activities is thus unknown. ...Read more

What are the drug interactions between Breo and Coreg (carvedilol)?

See below: Potential for coreg to cause airway constriction. This is what is taught. However, it seems in practice, this is a much different story. I'm sure some people have had issues like this, but in my practice, I've rarely if ever, seen any problems. ...Read more

If I have been taking Breo for 3 weeks with no side effects, can it cause me to be breathless after I use it for about 30 minutes at some time?

If I have been taking Breo for 3 weeks with no side effects, can it cause me to be breathless after I use it for about 30 minutes at some time?

30 minutes?: Breo is designed to be used one puff per day, at one time. It should never be used for 30 minutes. It can cause a condition called paradoxical bronchospasm, which is very dangerous. The package insert says that if you become very breathless you should use your REGULAR quick relief inhalant and seek medical attention immediately. It is also possible to have an allergic reaction to Breo. ...Read more

Should I measure my peak flow before or after my breo with a long acting beta agonist? I measure twice a day and use breo in the morning.

Depends: Since the bronchodilator in Breo acts rather rapidly, when to perform a PFR depends on what you want to know. If you want to know whether Breo works well for the entire 24 hr period, doing a PFR before would be the answer. If you want to know how much Breo can improve your lung function, doing it afterwards is the answer. In general, I prefer to see a pre-Breo PFR in assessing control ...Read more

I was prescribed Spiriva and Breo for asthma. Is it OK to take together? When I am feeling better can I take one of them? If so, which is better?

See below: They are ok to take together. If you asthma is so bad you need both of them, I would talk to your pulmonologist regarding testing your IgE levels and an allergen panel. You may be a candidate for xolair or need zyflo. Also, if you get to feeling better, I would stop the spiriva first, only after discussing this with your physician though. ...Read more

Diabetic taking Breo and causing high sugar. Does Anoro affect sugar in the same way. If yes what asthma med is safe for diabetics?

See below: Anoro would not affect your blood sugar. However, for asthma, the mainstay of therapy is an inhaled corticosteroid. That's what's affecting your blood sugar. As far was what's safe - or if you could come off the steroid - that would be up to you and your pulmonologist. It would be difficult to say without knowing your history, lung function tests, symptoms and a log of your blood sugars. ...Read more

If arformoterol and salmeterol both make my asthma worse, should I just assume it would be the same story with vilanterol? One doc suggested Breo

See below: So you should never take a long acting beta agonist by itself for asthma. That is what aformoteral and salmeterol are. Breo has an added steroid in it, which is the mainstay of asthma therapy. I would talk to your pulmonologist about it. ...Read more

What asthma meds are less likely to cause rise in blood sugar? Taking Breo and it's making sugar high. Is there anything steroid free to take?

Potentially: I would talk to your pulmonologist. Steroids are what most patients need, but if it's causing too much of an adverse affect, then maybe you could try something else. Make sure to be tested for allergies as well. There are asthma meds that help that aren't steroids. ...Read more

They are similiar: Keep in mind that these are similiar inhalers, they both contain an inhaled steroid. The breo in addition contains a long acting brohchodilator. Each of these inhalers are considered " preventive inhalers" and taking one dose on one day would not be helpful. They both take several weeks of dosing as prescribed to feel better! Is there a reason for the doctor switch? ...Read more

How can some "natural" weight management pills control the reviews they get?

Ringers: I would be very skeptical of reviews you might see on line, those can come from anywhere, including the brother in law of the producer. Look for scientific reviews or double blinded randomized trails, if they don't exist these reviews are called testimonials with all the validity on an infomercial. ...Read more

Hi I'm suffering from an increase in weight in the lower back area in the aspects I want you to review how can I eliminate this excess weight thanks?

Losing weight: To lose weight, get ur resting metabolism rate done (weight loss centers do this). This determines the total number of calories you need to lose 1-2lbs/week. Decreasing 500cal/day will give you a 1lb wt loss in 1wk; drink water (1/2 your body weight), eat small meals about 150-200cal 2-4x/ (depending on your metabolism rate) and 500cal/meal at night: lean protein/veggies; avoid carbs, . ...Read more

I'm 18, 5'3, weigh 145 lbs. I get mixed reviews about whether my weight is healthy. I use to have an eating disorder and don't know what's "healthy"?

Weight and health: Recommend a good physical exam with lab work and your doc can advise you on physical health and weight standards. But people can get over eating disorders and live normal lives without fear. Food can become just food again. If you are worried you should look for a Psychologist experienced in treating eating disorders. But in general, dieting makes people end up getting overweight ...Read more

These: These tests results appear normal. You will need an fsh (follicle stimulating hormone) and lh (lutenizing hormone) level in order to diagnose pcos. A ratio of greater than 3:1 lh to fsh points to a diagnosis. In addition you need a prolactin level and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level to rule out other issues.
Good luck. ...Read more

More calories/weight: I agree with Dr. Kwok, but just eating more protein will not make muscle (Or we could all be Mr./Ms. World) and protein can turn to fat. High protein diets have their own problems. Calories can come from other sources too. But do make sure you are just naturally thin and it is not due to a process that can be corrected by treatment as Dr. Kwok said as well. ...Read more

I suggest you eat at least 100 grams of lean protein per day (lean meats, eggs, cheese and whey protein shakes) as well as at least 150 grams of complex carbs (fruits/veggies, whole grain starch) in 3 meals and 2 snacks. Eat some protein right after work-out plus 15 grams of sugar (milk chocolate for example).Numbers vary based on weight. ...Read more
