Hard to speculate: The need for or benefit of any medication is based on individual needs. You have not provided any information on why it was prescribed or what your daily symptom pattern or lung function studies are. How this will affect your daily activities is thus unknown. ...Read more
See below: Potential for coreg to cause airway constriction. This is what is taught. However, it seems in practice, this is a much different story. I'm sure some people have had issues like this, but in my practice, I've rarely if ever, seen any problems. ...Read more
If I have been taking Breo for 3 weeks with no side effects, can it cause me to be breathless after I use it for about 30 minutes at some time?
30 minutes?: Breo is designed to be used one puff per day, at one time. It should never be used for 30 minutes. It can cause a condition called paradoxical bronchospasm, which is very dangerous. The package insert says that if you become very breathless you should use your REGULAR quick relief inhalant and seek medical attention immediately. It is also possible to have an allergic reaction to Breo. ...Read more
Should I measure my peak flow before or after my breo with a long acting beta agonist? I measure twice a day and use breo in the morning.
Depends: Since the bronchodilator in Breo acts rather rapidly, when to perform a PFR depends on what you want to know. If you want to know whether Breo works well for the entire 24 hr period, doing a PFR before would be the answer. If you want to know how much Breo can improve your lung function, doing it afterwards is the answer. In general, I prefer to see a pre-Breo PFR in assessing control ...Read more
I was prescribed Spiriva and Breo for asthma. Is it OK to take together? When I am feeling better can I take one of them? If so, which is better?
See below: They are ok to take together. If you asthma is so bad you need both of them, I would talk to your pulmonologist regarding testing your IgE levels and an allergen panel. You may be a candidate for xolair or need zyflo. Also, if you get to feeling better, I would stop the spiriva first, only after discussing this with your physician though. ...Read more
Is Breo a corticosteroid? And when should you use breo? I use singulair (montelukast). And a nebulizer.
Diabetic taking Breo and causing high sugar. Does Anoro affect sugar in the same way. If yes what asthma med is safe for diabetics?
See below: Anoro would not affect your blood sugar. However, for asthma, the mainstay of therapy is an inhaled corticosteroid. That's what's affecting your blood sugar. As far was what's safe - or if you could come off the steroid - that would be up to you and your pulmonologist. It would be difficult to say without knowing your history, lung function tests, symptoms and a log of your blood sugars. ...Read more
If arformoterol and salmeterol both make my asthma worse, should I just assume it would be the same story with vilanterol? One doc suggested Breo
What asthma meds are less likely to cause rise in blood sugar? Taking Breo and it's making sugar high. Is there anything steroid free to take?
I haven't been passing my urine drug testing lately. I don't use illicit drugs and have never had any problems before. I recently started taking Klonopin medication and a breather called, BREO (fluticasone furoate and vilanterol inhalation powder) Could th
PCP gave me Breo to try for asthma. Tried once, seemed OK. FDA hates. Other MD switched me to Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol). Cannot tolerate. Is Breo safe?
They are similiar: Keep in mind that these are similiar inhalers, they both contain an inhaled steroid. The breo in addition contains a long acting brohchodilator. Each of these inhalers are considered " preventive inhalers" and taking one dose on one day would not be helpful. They both take several weeks of dosing as prescribed to feel better! Is there a reason for the doctor switch? ...Read more

Can see doctor again: A senior adult, such as aged 60 or older, especially if quite a few years older than that, should see his doctor again if he has been getting short of breath during exertion. That means not simply blaming his lung disease or changes in his asthma medication, but going to get his heart checked to make sure his heart is not getting weaker and causing his shortness of breath on exertion. ...Read more
I worked out on an elliptical for the first time in years. Right after and for several days now I have been feeling kind of sick. Over exertion?
Ill after exercise: May be over exertion or dehydration post work out or reflux or unrelated ill. If you drink a lot of water you can dilute your sodium so you should always alternate water with gatorade/juices, rarely rhabodmyolysis which is seen in marathon runners (so you would have had to be on the elliiptical 1.5-2 hours). Since it is persisting seek medical attention today at doctor/urgent care ...Read more
