Sure of diagnosis?: If your doctor is sure of the diagnosis, it may just take time. Bronchitis typically doesn't show up on chest x-ray. If you use birth control pills or have other risk factors for clotting, ask your doctor to do a d-dimer to screen you for a blood clot in your lung (pulmonary embolism). Asthma symptoms and shortness of breath can be worse if there is an infection in the lungs at the same time. This could be a bronchitis or pneumonia.
