If lung cancer isn't detected until it's causing trouble breathing, has it usually already spread to other organs?

It depends.: It depends on a few things:
1) where it is in the lung, whether in the periphery or near the large airways;
2) what type of lung cancer it is (some are known to spread very early and quickly, others less so);
3) what the health of the person was beforehand (people with early copd, for example, may have breathing difficulty with lung cancer much earlier than someone without any other problems). ...Read more

Where is best to exercise when breathing very heavily to avoid the risk of lung cancer and what would be harmful to breathe in inside and outside?

Where is best to exercise when breathing very heavily to avoid the risk of lung cancer and what would be harmful to breathe in inside and outside?

Depends: It is good that you are exercising vigorously. Indoors or outdoors may not matter much. If one site has more polluted air, it would be better to avoid that site. Not knowing about the ambient air pollution and indoor air quality where you live, it is not feasible to make a recommendation.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

So scared have something like lung cancer, had cough for 7 weeks after cold, not easing. Dr said chest and breathing ok and no other worrying symptom?

MGT: Your risk for lung cancer involves a number of factors including your smoking history, chest imaging findings, and genetic predisposition.
If you are experiencing a prolonged cough, a pulmonary function test and chest radiograph may help to determine the next steps. If your chest is clear on exam the likelihood of bronchitis or pneumonia is less. A virtual in box consult can also be arranged. ...Read more

I used diatomaceous earth yesterday and my mother with lung cancer is breathing heavy in spurts?

She needs a doctor!: Diotomaceous earth contains very fine particles called silica, which can be inhaled and cause lung irritation. However, this doesn't cause sudden symptoms. Since your mother is breathing differently and she has lung cancer, she needs to see her cancer doctor as soon as possible. It probably has nothing to do with the diatomaceous earth and everything to do with her underlying lung cancer. ...Read more

I have OCD and lately I'm obsessed with a whistling sound when I exhale. I hear when I provoke it by breathing very slow. All tests clear. Lung cancer?

OCD Symptoms?: If you have been examined by a physician, and had the appropriate tests (chest x-ray, blood tests) and nothing was found to suggest lung cancer, then this may be an OCD issue. Do you have family history of lung cancer, or have you lost a friend to this disease? Are you a smoker? If all these are no, then you need to stop monitoring your breathing so closely. 2nd hand smoking: Are you referring to second hand smoke? If so it is difficult to know exactly what the equivalent is in terms of how many cigarrette you inhaled, nonetheless, studies have shown that second hand smoke can be as harmful as directly inhaling cigarettes. This means that you may have an increased risk of lung cancer, however one cannot say you will definitely get it. Avoid it if possible. ...Read more

Hi Doctor, I have pain in my lower right lung since last 6 months. I am non smoker. Breathing is fine. No blood in cough. Is this lung cancer?

At 29, not likely: Firstly, you know that you are having pain in the lower right side of your chest. What you don't know is whether that pain is in your lungs. Pain from internal organs may be referred to other places - like gall bladder inflammation may be felt as pain the right shoulder. Am more concerned about your fears of cancer than any real risk. See your doctor for assessment and perhaps counseling. ...Read more

Stop smoking: That is quite a jump from asthma to cancer. Our brain thinks the worse but actually asthma can contribute to all of the reported symptoms. Treat the asthma symptoms under doctors care, find a way to stop smoking even with therapy, there are many ways. Also ask for x-ray if worry persists, lung changes would be evident. Blood work as well. Take care! ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
