SCAD?: Sorry, i've been a cardiologist (in the usa) for 33 years, but i'm not familiar with the abbreviation "scads" - please clarify. Breath holding and straining are valsalva maneuvers which reduce venous return and cardiac output while raising BP and slowing hr - these should not cause mi. If they do, it would have occurred with your next bowel movement anyway. ...Read more

Can you tell me what do I do about random breath-holding episodes?

In a child?: True breath holding spells are always in response to pain or anger and are basically a glorified temper tantrum and need to be ignored. If this does not describe the situation, then i would guess that there is manipulation going on and seeing a counselor would be helpful. ...Read more
