Can you please help soft swollen lump in my left armpit during early breast feeding. What is going on?

Plugged duct: You may have a plugged milk duct in the upper outer part of your left breast that has caused some inflammation. The lump could be the actual plugged duct or a swollen lymph node in response to the irritation. Try warm showers, frequent breast feeding and breast massage. Seek medical care if fever, increase pain, chills or feeling ill. ...Read more

Is it normal to feel the pressure of a baby breastfeeding umder ur armpit?

Breastfeeding: I am not certain I understand your question well. However, some breast tissue occasionally extend to the are of the axilla (underarm) and I think the pressure you are referring to must be coming from that area.
If my advice does not answer your question, please rephrase it and send it again. ...Read more

I am breastfeeding and get a prickly stinging sensation in my armpits towards the end of the day. It started last week. Is this normal?

Breast feeding : Yes and no. Many women describe pains, "heaviness" in the arms, prickly sensations, and other discomfort when feeding. Sometimes, merely adjusting the position of baby helps. It is nothing to worry about and doesn't mean you have mastitis. If you can't find a more comfortable position, give your OB or pediatrician a call and discuss tricks and tips they have recommended to their other patients. ...Read more

Irritation?: Itchy armpits are usually due to an irritation. Try using deodorant stick that does not say anti-perspirant. This helps if you have a blocked sweat duct. Compresses of water/white vinegar may help remove small yeast infection. Make sure if you shave to use a good quality gel and quality razor — not just soap and water — to avoid ingrown hairs. A light powdering of corn starch can help with wetness ...Read more

When I was breastfeeding my son 2 weeks ago under my left armpit started to hurt as he was trying to suckle. Could it be cancer?

Unlikely.: This is more likely to be from infection/irritation of your breast from nursing/feeding. There are lymphatic ducts that lead to the armpit from the breast/nipple area. If the breast does not get better with warm wet cloth massage, see your doctor. ...Read more

I'm a 23 year-old female with a painful hard vein in my armpit. Why could this be and what can I do about it? Could this have to do with breastfeeding even though the painful vein is a good distance from the breasts?

I'm a 23 year-old female with a painful hard vein in my armpit. Why could this be and what can I do about it? Could this have to do with breastfeeding even though the painful vein is a good distance from the breasts?

In : In a patient who is actively breast feading a palpable lump or cord can be indicative of a clogged duct. This condition is treatable by your physician or lactation consultant. However, if there is an identifiable "vein", your assessment may be correct. Regardless, you should report this to your primary doctor or your ob/gyn physician. Depending on their assessment, an ultrasound can be very helpful to futher evaluate whether it is a vascular issue or breast duct issue. ...Read more

Hello dr during my 1 pregnancy I noticed swelling in my armpit my baby is taking breast feed and now I noticed swelling is decrease then before I feel?

Unclear question...: However, if a woman has swelling in her armpit area each time she has a baby and breastfeeds, she might have some extra breast tissue (milk-producing glands) in the armpit area. Her primary care doctor or her Ob-Gyn doctor can evaluate to see if that is the case. ...Read more

I am breastfeeding an almost six month old and she is sick so not feeding as much as usual I have pain and lumps in one breast and armpit what do I do to relieve pain and prevent it from worsening?

Mastitis vs cancer: Doubt cancer at your age but mastitits from cracks in nipples or from babies mouth bacteria getting in or blocked milk glands from not putting babies mouth on whole areola and sucking from the darker ring around nipple and not just nipple, but keep breast feeding to unblock the glands for milk, warm wet compresses may help, tylenol, and antibiotics liek amox or keflex can help besides emptying ...Read more

I finished breastfeeding 4 months ago. Now, I have a pain under my left armpit/breast area and my left arm from my elbow to pinky finger keeps going numb. What should I do?

Nerve pressure: The effects from breast feeding should have cleared by now. While pain in the breast is not an ominous sign it is still worth checking out. The numbness in the left arm is probably not related as that sounds like pressure on the "funny bone" nerve but that should also be investigated further. ...Read more

What capsule do I take to stop producing milk. I've been breastfeeding my baby and my nipple swollen. I want to stop being breastfeed?

What capsule do I take to stop producing milk. I've been breastfeeding my baby and my nipple swollen. I want to stop being breastfeed?

More swelling: If you simply stop breastfeeding, you will get engorged, then you will stop producing milk in a few days to a week. But why stop? If you keep feeding, the swelling is likely to go down as you both get more proficient. If there is redness and tenderness, see a doctor/midwife/lactation consultant to check for signs of infection. Human breastmilk continues to be the best food for human babies. ...Read more

My left breast is swollen an entire cup size. Breastfeeding-- what does this mean?

Need to get checked: If this is painful and sudden, it could be an infection or blocked milk ducts. Even if not painful and not sudden, something is going on. It may be harder to detect a lump deep in the breast while you are full of milk. You should speak to or see your lactation consultant or provider. ...Read more

Weaning baby off breastfeeding, and breasts are feeling swollen in areas/tender. Have not fed/pumped in 48 hours. Do I need to pump or will it decease?

Several choices: I have had some moms cold turkey(put baby on a bottle & bind with a pre-pregnancy bra)& everybody in the house is miserable but a week or so later its done, I don't advise this. Some will start each feed & interrupt baby after 3-5 minutes per breast (take off enough to feel soft) switch then bottle till full. Some will drop one feed every few days. All seem to work, the sweat equity is what varies ...Read more

Right tonsil is swollen and painful when swallow. Lump in neck. Breastfeeding currently. Recently move have no PCP. Can I wait a watch or need check?

May need strep test: Sore throat and tonsillitis symptoms usually are evaluated by a rapid strep test in addition to an exam. If there are strep germs, antibiotics such as Amoxil (amoxicillin) or Zithromax are needed. Sometimes tonsils get whitish mucousy stuff on them. A patient can call around town to see if there is a new PCP who can fit her in within 48 hours. Going online to her insurance's website can bring up a PCP list. ...Read more
