Breastfeeding And Breast Touching
What are the cons of exclusively pumping breast milk and feeding baby using bottle versus breast feeding?
Efficency: It's more efficient to breast feed than to pump & then bottle feed. You also avoid any risk of less than perfectly sterile bottles causing the milk to carry an infection. In addition, baby's nursing tends to trigger you to produce more milk than pumping. That said, having breast fed both my kids, pumping when i was away & nursing when i was with baby was a very effective compromise. ...Read more

Common problem: You may be very sensitive. I would suggest being very gentle to your skin as well as aggressive in its care. Put your milk onto your nipples to give it a coating for protection. In addition i would try a lanolin cream or ointment in between feedings, then wipe off gently before next feeding. Moisturize the surrounding skin for more soothing relief. ...Read more

Allergy skin tests can help determine if this may be the case. Common symptoms of this may include rash/eczema or even vomiting/spitting up. It should be noted that most colic is not due to food allergy. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Of course, the breast may get very "lumpy-bumpy" with breastfeeding without any infection. Either way, the lumps should resolve after treatment of the infection and discontinuation of breast-feeding. ...Read more
I am pumping to feed my baby breast milk but also using formula. (i'm not producing enough). Should I do breast milk only and formula only bottles?
I would: I don't have science behind this, but i don't know if mixing breast milk and formula will break down the good proteins in either liquid. I'm probably being overly cautious with this recommendation. So, if it was my baby, i wouldn't mix. Hope that helps! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Probably-no warranty: In all likelihood, you will be able to nurse. However it is possible that significant ductal damage may be incurred, that nursing may be difficult or impossible. If this is a major concern, you should either avoid implants until after completion of pregnancies or consider breast crease or armpit incisions. Remember that even without implants nursing may not be possible. ...Read moreSee 6 more doctor answers
