Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate): Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is a Class B Agent so is reasonably safe. Taking any antibiotics can alter the normal microbes in your vagina killing some and causing others to overgrow. BV is normal flora which could overgrow if the normal lactobacillus is killed but it is more likely to result in a yeast infection. Perhaps you should try nasal saline. It will not cause problems and may relieve sinusitis. ...Read more

Maybe: Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is a pretty broad spectrum antibiotic. See if the doc can give you a narrower abx. I would definitely take probiotics but that may not prevent cdiff. Crohn's does not come from taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). ...Read more

Probiotics: Probiotics is used to prevent the side effects of diarrhea from the antibiotics. Diarrhea can sometimes persist after the antibiotics. Uncommon but real: This is an uncommon but real issue.Risk varies with the type/duration and intensity of antibiotic use (IV vs oral,etc.) Many centers do stool surveillance cultures to spot this in higher risk patients. Breastfeed: It is ok to continue nursing while you take antibiotics for mastitis, that will even help to clear the infection. You should not save the milk if you do pump. Ibuprofen does not affect breastfeeding either way. ...Read more
