Seriously skinny!: You are very thin for your size. Unless this is familial you may be underweight from malnutrition. That will make healing from anything way tougher. RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. You can't really do compression to your chest, and it's always elevated except while sleeping. You can take NSAID's (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.) to help with pain and inflammation. Time will heal most strains/sprains. ...Read more

Doubt a sprain: Usually if you have a sprain of the rib muscles and tendons it is pretty painful. If this swollen area is not tender when you push on it, I would just watch it and wait, since the x-ray was fine.
