Can a breast lump removal cause lymph nodes along neck to swell?

Can a breast lump removal cause lymph nodes along neck to swell?

HIghly unlikely: If done with sterile precautions. However, the armpit lymph nodes connect to those along the sub clavicle vein nodes and then into the neck. If the lump was cancer, you will need to have sentinel nodes checked, and if these neck nodes do not subside, they too need biopsy. ...Read more

If woman has lymphedema (first time ever) caused by breast cancer (15 yrs ago), can lump on breast be swollen lymph node or is cancer more likely?

Not lymph node: There really are no lymph nodes in breast tissue. Bumps in the breast could be from cystic nodule or another breast cancer. I would recommend seeing your doctor to evaluate your axillary lymph nodes with respect to the lymphedema. ...Read more

What kind of breast lump (found by GP along with swollen lymph node) would not show up on US or mammo? Scans showed I have very dense breast tissue.

What kind of breast lump (found by GP along with swollen lymph node) would not show up on US or mammo? Scans showed I have very dense breast tissue.

Neither: Mammography nor ultrasound are 100% accurate for detecting cancer. In particular, the sensitivity of mammo can drop to lower than 50% in dense breasts. A small percentage of cancers are found only on physical exam, and not seen on mammo or US. However, the chance of a lump being cancer in the setting of a negative mammo and ultrasound is low, approx. 0.5%-3%. ...Read more

I have fibrocystic breast disease, bilateral axillary lymphadenopathy & fibroadenoma. Breast lump was present since puberty. Will danzole be safe to use?

Depends: On your symptoms, remember fibrocystic changes in the breasts are "changes" not a disease, the fact you have axillary lymphadenopathy and fibro adenoma, means that you have been evaluated professionally, please don't self medicate, danazol is an impeded androgen and has its side effects, so kindly follow up with a breast specialist, have a 2nd or 3rd opinion, it's your right, good luck ...Read more

I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck and a lump on my upper back. All are painless. Should I see a doctor about this?

Yes: Most lumps in back are sebaceous cysts or lipomas. If a lesion there were malignant it would drain to axilla and not neck. I have had this lump in my neck all my life that fits the description of a swollen lymph node. The doctor says its harmless but swollen lymph nodes are only suppose to last like a few weeks and I've always had it. What should ido?

LN can stay big: Sometimes after a lymph node has enlarged due to an infection, it doesn't return to its previous size. I have two that got big when I had pneumonia over 20 years ago that I can still feel. I'd be more concerned if they were new and getting bigger, but if you've had them for years and they're the same size, they're probably nothing. If you're still worried, tell your doc. ...Read more

I have lumps behind my ears. Big swollen hard lumps. Could it be swollen lymph nodes? What could cause this?

I have lumps behind my ears. Big swollen hard lumps. Could it be swollen lymph nodes? What could cause this?

Lumps-Head and Neck: Many possibilities- lymph nodes are among them, but so are skin lesions, cysts, salivary tumors and more unusual things like angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia. Correlation with other symptoms, duration, pain, mobility could help narrow the dx. A fine needle biopsy might be needed if no obviously benign cause is found clinically. ...Read more

How often does someone have swollen lymph node in the neck that doesn't have a lump? For HIV in particular does swollen lymph nodes always have lump

Can you explain?: All swollen lymph nodes are lymps, though they may be deep and you can't feel them. And every male in his twenties, like you, has at least one or two palpable lymph nodes somewhere in the neck. Please do yourself a major favor right now, and go back to your physician and ask to be screened for HIV. Worrying like this is draining you of energy you need for other things. I have had swollen lymph nodes on my neck and parotiditis, now they found a mass in my lung and half is not working?

Maybe sarcoidosis?: ..Usually a benign condition, but can cause lung or other organ scarring in a small % of patients. It also sounds like you have a doctor, and for the complex situation you describe, you are better off asking questions of docs who know your history, than trying to figure it out online. I tell my patients, use information from the internet to get the questions to ask your doc, not the answers. ...Read more

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well. ...Read more
