I am currently breast feeding, i want to have 2 or 3 beers, how long does it take for alcohol to disappear from milk till next nursing?

I am currently breast feeding, i want to have 2 or 3 beers, how long does it take for alcohol to disappear from milk till next nursing?

Difficult issue: The alcohol actually transfers into breast milk as it is made and does not necessarily disappear before consumption. The rule of 1 hour/drink has been offered as enough to diminish transfer. Alcohol in any form decreases prolactin production and this can drop milk supply. It can sedate baby and will alter the taste of the milk. My baby is 11mos 1week old. I am breast feeding and afraid I am not producing enough. Is it okay to supplement with whole cow's milk between nursings?

My baby is 11mos 1week old. I am breast feeding and afraid I am not producing enough. Is it okay to supplement with whole cow's milk between nursings?

Yes: A 1 year old baby can start whole cow milk. Breast milk is better. Formula is somewhat more nutritious than cow milk but is much more expensive. A baby who is a picky eater and eats little solid food, or has almost no variety in his choice of solid foods, will probably not get enough iron and vitamins from cow milk. Such a baby may be better off drinking breast milk + formula, instead of cow milk. ...Read more

I'm breast feeding & want to know if i take my Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) in the a.M. How many hrs do I have to wait b4 nursing again? Not XR its the salts (tablets)

Not a timing issue: Milk is being made continuously and exposure to Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) will show up in the milk, most within the first 8 hours after consumption. At theraputic (prescribed) amounts it is considered relatively safe.Caution is advised for infants sensitive to the drug showing hyper irritability, insomnia & reduced weight gain. Any overuse should be met with a 24hrs of pump/dump period before resuming med. ...Read more

What is the difference between bottle feeding breast milk and nursing?

What is the difference between bottle feeding breast milk and nursing?

Nurturing: While the nutrition is the same, there is value in natural feeding. Infants who breast feed are listening to mom's heartbeat, swaying with her movements, and sharing the same space. This in some ways mimics the comfort afforded by the womb. As the infant grows older, they may or may not need or appreciate the nurturing. A breast feeder that finishes quickly and wants to get off is ready to wean. ...Read more

What is the difference between bottle feeding breast milk and nursing an infant?

What is the difference between bottle feeding breast milk and nursing an infant?

Both give the same: nutritional value, which is extremely important. Nursing allows a different, closer bonding of mother and baby. However, if nursing is not possible, it is certainly worthwhile and beneficial to the baby to give the expressed breast milk by a bottle. ...Read more
