Can nipple piercings affect breast feeding?

Can nipple piercings affect breast feeding?

Possibly: If the piercing hits into the ducts, milk flow could be affected. Production should not be a problem, but you may be more prone to mastitis and/or have some minor problems with let down of the milk. That being said, I have known many women to breast feed without any problems who had history of nipple piercing, so I wouldn't rule it out just based on that. ...Read more

Rash on breast during or after breast feeding?

Rash on breast during or after breast feeding?

Common problem: You may be very sensitive. I would suggest being very gentle to your skin as well as aggressive in its care. Put your milk onto your nipples to give it a coating for protection. In addition i would try a lanolin cream or ointment in between feedings, then wipe off gently before next feeding. Moisturize the surrounding skin for more soothing relief. ...Read more

Might i still breastfeed with the nipple incision breast augmentation?

Probably-no warranty: In all likelihood, you will be able to nurse. However it is possible that significant ductal damage may be incurred, that nursing may be difficult or impossible. If this is a major concern, you should either avoid implants until after completion of pregnancies or consider breast crease or armpit incisions. Remember that even without implants nursing may not be possible. ...Read more

Nipple discharge: Nipple discharge can be normal for some. In general, white, milky, yellow and green can be normal. Blood or a brownish color can suggest a more serious condition. If this is a new finding, you should contact your doctor for evaluation. Green usually indicates fibrocystic change (I have several other posts on the subject). It does not usually indicate infection. ...Read more

Why is my nipple inverted after breast reduction?

Why is my nipple inverted after breast reduction?

Depends: If the nipple was inverted before the procedure then breast reduction alone will not correct that. If it wasn't beforehand, there may be some traction/tension on the deeper tissues that are pulling the nipple into the breast mound. If its early after surgery, swelling of the surrounding tissue can give the appearance of inversion. Go back and talk to your surgeon and let him/her evaluate you. ...Read more

My nipples are sore and leaking I have merina coil stopped breast feeding 10 months ago! what does this mean?

My nipples are sore and leaking I have merina coil stopped breast feeding 10 months ago! what does this mean?

Unclear: This depends on what happened with your mild production over these past months... If you said to me you weaned, there was NO MILK WHATSOEVER for 9 months, then leakage started this month, that might make me want to investigate this with careful history, exam and labs. If leakage has been intermittent, and every time you express there is milk, then I would say, just stop checking! ...Read more

I finished my period a week ago and now have sore nipples and tiny spots on the areola. They feel and look as though I am breast feeding?

Hormonal effects: If your period ended "one week ago" and your period is 5-7 days, you may be having a "double ovulation" which produces twice as much estrogen and progesterone, and the levels can mimic early pregnancy. These levels of hormone can have a temporary effect on your areolae, making them tender and slightly swollen. This is not abnormal, but if your next period is "late", get a serum pregnancy test. ...Read more

Is there a way to condition nipples for breast-feeding?

Is there a way to condition nipples for breast-feeding?

Maybe: You could try using a breast pump so that you get used to the sensation. That said, keep in mind that the actual suckling of the baby is mechanically much more than the neg pressure generated from the suction pump. Also, that the act of nursing your baby is itself the best way to get your nipples to adapt. Congrats on your baby and your decision to breast feed. Good luck. ...Read more
