My mom 66 just diagnosed with breast cancer, metastasis to bones, stomach&lung t3n2m1. Put on tamoxifen for 2 mnths.Can she benefit from surgery?Whats her survival rate in years?How to extend her life?
Breast cancer results when glandular cells lining the milk ducts and lobules of the human breast begin to grow in an unregulated manner. The growth occurs initially inside the ducts but eventually breaks outside into the breast tissue and ultimately spreads both to the lymph nodes in the armpit and via the bloodstream to other parts of the body. Because of the promoting affect of estrogen almost all breast cancer occurs in women and is a rarity in men. The unregulated growth is due to both inherited and acquired genetic defects. Her2-pos Breast Ca: Herceptin (trastuzumab) is indicated for Her2-pos metastatic BC. Duration of therapy in metastatic setting is not well defined. Usually it continues as long as it works or discontinued due to toxicity. Zometa is indicated for bone metastasis in most solid tumors. It carries a risk for osteonecrosis of jaw.
