I am going for a breast biopsy this week and i'm scared. What will i go through?

A minor procedure: I am hoping that this is planned as a needle biopsy. Usually they will give you local anesthesia. The anesthetic causes some burning, but it works very quickly to numb the area. If imaging is used, usually ultrasound and sometimes stereotactic guidance (that uses x-ray) will be used to guide the biopsy needle to the area of concern. Depending on the lesion, its location and your breast condition the procedure may take several minutes to an hour or so. Average of about 1/2 hour. It is done at the office, a clinic, outpatient department, a breast center or a radiology department. They will give you the post biopsy instructions. You should expect the result within a few days. ...Read more
