Will a home pregnancy test still give accurate results if you are having what might be breakthrough bleeding?

Will a home pregnancy test still give accurate results if you are having what might be breakthrough bleeding?

Yes: Today's home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, or medications. A correctly done urine test will give a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (or when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon. ...Read more

Of course, but later: Plan B can alter the menstrual bleeding for the cycle in which Plan B was taken, and sometimes the next cycle too. One should be sure to check a home pregnancy test about 3 weeks after sex, because Plan B works most of the time, but not all the time. ...Read more

I have had light brown coloured discharge for a week instead of my regular flow. 2 days of light bleeding. Negative pregnancy test. What should I do?

Nada: It's actually common to have an occasional abnormal cycle. If on ocps, your scenario is very typical. If not on any birth control, wait it out & see if your normal cycle resumes. If it doesn't, check a pregnancy test (if you're sexually active). Consider birth control if you're not planning a family, and take it from there. Overall, I wouldn't worry. You may have just not ovulated this cycle. ...Read more
