Brain Tumor Ct Scan
If i had a MRI oct2012 & cat scan in dec 2012 & both where normal should I b worried bout a brain tumor? Can a CT scan show a brain tumor n the brain
Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
Had a fear of brain tumor for 7 months. Ct scan without contrast was clean. Would I be having severe symptoms by now if it was malignant?
Brain tumors aren't easily categorized into benign or malignant: Although the most aggressive type of brain tumor, glioblastoma, would likely be causing severe symptoms by now, there are other types of brain tumors that can be serious but not grow as quickly. The majority, however, would be associated with progressive symptoms during this time period. An MRI is the best test to evaluate potential masses in the brain. ...Read more
If im in the ER and they wanna check for a brain tumor by doing a CT scan. Can i request an MRI without contrast instead or is that not an option?
Yes/No: A ct scan has the advantage of being fast (and cheap from the insurance companies standpoint) and gives a good enough resolution as a screening test. You can request an MRI without contrast, however, if something is found, you need to get another MRI scan which is a longer, and more expensive, time commitment. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is smelling smoke a symptom of a brain tumor a myth? Had CT scan 2 years ago for phantom smells. Everything normal. Now constant smell of smoke x2 days. Dry sinuses? No other neuro symptoms.
See your PCP: Myth, or no myth, it warrants further investigation. Smelling unusual smells that aren't present like smoke is not normal. So the first person to start a dialogue with is your pcp. S/he will be able to advise you further, and provide a referral to see a neurologist, if that's needed. Right now it needs to be documented, especially if you're smelling it full-time. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can a CT scan also scan for brain tumors? I had a CT scan done a while ago to check my sinuses, but now i fear i may have a brain tumor. I was wondering if a doctor could look at the same CT scan to check for brain tumors.
Probably not.: A ct of the sinuses wouldn't get much of a look at the brain. An MRI of the brain would be the best test for a brain tumor. Of course i don't know anything about you, but fearing you have a brain tumor is often separate from actually having one, fortunately. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

If blood work, neurology report were normal, and doctor did an examination, he suspects no brain tumor, no CT scan, am I most likey safe? Optic nerve looks good, just have gallstones that cause nausea
Depends: If done without contrast, it could be missed. If the tumor is in the posterior fossa (back of brain or brainstem) could be missed. With a ct scan, the bones in the back of the head commonly cause artifact and a mass could be missed. If there is a concern, then a MRI with gadolinium should be performed. But a ct scan with contrast is a good study. Hope this helps. ...Read more

If CT scan w&wo contrast came back normal with no brain tumor found 2 years and 7 months ago what's my risk to have one now if I have new symptoms?
Last question i promise 2 years and 7 month ago i got a CT scan with and without contrast and it was clear ? D i need to still worry about brain tumor
Most: 23 year old men do not need a head ct +/- contrast in the first place, and the exposure from the radiation when you do not need a scan is not worth repeating. Imaging is expensive and should only be done when necessary. You provide no information suggesting either ct or MRI is indicated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
2 years and 8 months ago CT scan w&wo contrast ruled out a brain tumor now im worry again can a brain tumor grow that fast and cause symptoms im 27?
"tumor" literally translates as "mass", so even a fresh bruise could be called a "tumor". Doctors use the term "neoplasm" (tranlates literally as new growth) to describe tumors that are abnormal growths of cells. These may be benign or malignant; "malignant" = cancer. In everyday usage, we use "tumor" ...Read more
