Neoplasms (Definition)

"tumor" literally translates as "mass", so even a fresh bruise could be called a "tumor". Doctors use the term "neoplasm" (tranlates literally as new growth) to describe tumors that are abnormal growths of cells. These may be benign or malignant; "malignant" = cancer. In everyday usage, we use "tumor" ...Read more

My son is 11 since he was like 3 he has been having random nose bleed and migrains, he also grinds his teeth is this a sign of a brain tumor? Am concerned as I have had thyroid cancer.

Not likely: Nose bleeds and migraines are vascular issues most likely. Tooth grinding can be a sign of anxiety and/or a bad bite. But let's get your son examined by a physicians and a dentist to get an accurate diagnosis so his problems can be treated. ...Read more

Which kind of brain tumor causes neck pain?

Which kind of brain tumor causes neck pain?

Brain tumor: Tumors in the back part of the brain or posterior fossa can put downward pressure on the spinal cord and irritate the nerves in the neck. Muscle spasm can occur if there is erosion of the skull base and the occipital condyles. Blockage of cerebrospinal fluid as it flows from the brain to the spinal cord will cause neck pain. ...Read more

Where is headache caused by a brain tumor commonly felt? Top of the head? Forehead? Neck? All of the above?

Can be anywhere: It would be good to have your history of frequent headaches worked up by your doctor too, so you can rest assured that you don't have something you fear. That can bring peace of mind. Keep your cell phone away from your brain/testes in any case. Hands free alter natives. ...Read more

Have persistant, fluctuating headache and general malaise for two weeks, now slightly sore back of neck-no neruo symptoms, etc. Could be brain tumor?

Not likely: This is the time of year for viral illness, and you may have just come down with a virus that your body is fighting. However, as your symptoms have been lasting a while, it is a good idea to visit with your doctor for a more detailed account of your symptoms plus a physical exam and possible lab tests to get at the primary cause of your feeling unwell. ...Read more

20yr old. stressed And worried and now have aching neck and headache. And beginning to think it's a brain tumor. Is it just anxiety? two weeks Started

Anxiety is my bet: Anxiety is a prime suspect for almost all symptoms - especially the "soft" ones w/out known lab tests or imaging. Here's a great Dx Tool! If the symptom can change based on distraction or focus - it's probably anxiety. Fractures, tumors, viruses, etc. do not come or go in response to a phone call, great song, annoying chatter. If it is always there, see a doctor - but brain tumors are rare. ...Read more

For years, Iv been feeling a Weird tense, tight, weak and tingly feeling from left side neck to left side of arm. No headaches. Is it brain tumor?

Very unlikely: It may be an issue with cervical vertebrae that is affecting the nerves coming out of the cervical spinal cord. It would be prudent to consult a neurologist. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

Can someone die from a brain tumor without knowing they had one? I'm afraid I have one because of stiff neck, and tinnitus. Doctor says it's anxiety.

Anxiety Disorder: You are a 20 yo female with ADD, anxiety and hypochondria who is on meds for anxiety, depression and muscle pain/spasm You've already managed to get a cervical spine MRI for your symptoms which probably included brain as well. I dont see how your doctor would have missed a "brain tumor". You may need to consult with your mental health provider about adjusting meds (the aspirin can cause tinnitus). ...Read more

Can virus cause persistant come-and-go ha, slightly stiff neck, general lethargy? Otherwise healthy woman..Sound like brain tumor? No neuro symptoms

Virus and HAs: Many viruses can cause the symptoms you describe. In most cases, the symptoms are self limited and will resolve. If not, consult your doctor. There is no evidence to worry about a brain tumor; while a stiff neck can be associated with a viral meningitis, most of these are self limited and will resolve. Unless your symptoms persist or worsen, there is no need for alarm. ...Read more

I recently had a Head and Neck CT scan. One without and one with contrast. What are the chances a brain tumor causing symptoms was missed?

Very remote: CT scan will pick up a brain tumor easily although it is not the best test for small(tiny) tumors. But then you would not have any symptoms from a small lesion. Please share information about your symptoms with us....we like to have detailed history of what is bothering you to start with. ...Read more

Am having neck pain and earaches and headacheseveryday i think i might have an brain tumor or cancer plus shoulder pain by my upper back pains i want to go have an cat scan but i already been for other things

Cluster of symptoms: Hard to say with a general cluster of symptoms what may be happening, but if they are significant they should be evaluated. Conditions such as brain tumor are quite rare and ct/mri scans may be ordered by a physician after a thorough history and exam. Don't ignore your symptoms, but be cautious about jumping to the most severe conclusion without more of a work-up. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Is a head CT with contrast sufficient to rule out a brain tumor? Reason I had it was head and neck pain left side for 6 months. Pain still present.

Usually: certain type of tumors can't be well visualized on CT and requires MRI, such as meningiomas, but neck pain is rarely cause of tumor in the brain. tumors can occur in the spinal cord, including the neck spinal cord, but neck pain is usually due to problems with the neck itself, such as disc or arthritis. ...Read more

Second opinion: Chronic headache might cause anyone to worry. In satisfying differential diagnostic problems, doctors properly examine & test patients to rule in & rule out disorders. When no organic causes are discovered, only then should functional & psychological disorders rise to top of differential list. Sometimes definitive studies, including imaging studies, are therapeutic; as negative results are shown. ...Read more

I feel tingles, some weakness & pain in right arm;pain in neck &some headaches;weight loss & plugged ear.Could it be brain tumor? I've TMJ and anxiety

Pain in arm or neck: Not likely to get pain in the arm or neck from a brain tumor without having signs of brain stem dysfunction. There are other conditions that need to be considered. Chiari malformation can produce tingling in neck and shoulders with headaches. You might have a couple of unrelated problems producing a confusing clinical picture. (separate neck and ear problem). See below: Agree with need to evaluate and treat, but you could possess an inner ear problem called meniere's disease, and this could be pinned down by an otolaryngologist. If you have hearing loss focally on right side, and double vision, get MRI and "clear the air" regarding your concerns. Probably not tumor, but agree that you need a diagnosis. ...Read more
