Patient with stage 4 lung cancer with brain metastasis is having very bloody urine. What does this mean?

Many things: Stage IV lung cancer with bloody urine can mean many things. It could be due to the presence of a metastatic tumor in the bladder or the kidney. Please also note whether or not you are on a blood thinner. In uncommon case, it could also indicate the presence of a primary bladder tumor (though i doubt in this case). Bladder inflammation or infection could also be the cause. Check with your doctor. ...Read more

Dad,Oscar, was told stage 4 lung cancer 2.5 wks ago. 1/3 sz brain tumor removed. 3 brain lesions. In bones&pos liver. Would u cyperknife brain tomorrow?

It depends: If you are 76, your Dad must be late 80s or early 90s. At such an advanced age it may not be worth being so aggressive with terminal cancer that at such advanced stage means he has only few weeks to few months left. However, if his desire is to be aggressive, Cyberknife is an effective an low risk procedure and I would recommend it highly. Otherwise, hospice care is very appropriate. ...Read more

Yes and No: Stage 4 lung cancer is an incurable type of cancer. Only about half of the patients respond to chemotherapy and that benefit lasts for no more than 6 to 12 months. That is about all one can do in the present state of cancer treatemnt. My dad has stage 4 lung cancer with bone metastasis. Second line chemotherapy completed fully before 2 months. Now he has frequent cough and vomiting?

Go to see onc: He needs to go to see his oncologist to see if his current symptom of progressive cough is related to progression of cancer- or it this is associated to something else. What type of lung cancer that your father has? If this is an adenocarcinoma of the lung maintenance therapy is something that should be considered following chemotherapy regimen.A ct scan is something he probably should get done. ...Read more

Stage 4 cancer that has mets to brain, lungs, adrenal gland and now liver, cause bowels to shut down? If so what are the signs that it is happening?

Stage 4 cancer that has mets to brain, lungs, adrenal gland and now liver, cause bowels to shut down? If so what are the signs that it is happening?

It depends on so man: Bowel obstruction can occur in any advanced abdominal cancer. If the bowels are compromised by tumor they can close/obstruct. It is not difficult to tell when that happens because no food will pass through them. As a result patients become constipated/obstipated and have increasing pain in the abdomen and are unable to eat and drink due to persistent nausea and vomiting. The belly swells up also. ...Read more

A close friend of the family has cancer , but can't speak anymore? Is that brain mets causing it?

Not necessarily: A number of problems can cause a cessation of speech but your friend's oncologist needs to know about your friend's issue and then do an evaluatain. Brain mets certainly is one of the many possibilities that the oncologist can address--but there are others so i would not rush to judgement. ...Read more

Have had a cold, yellow phlegm, slight cough. Normal to have pressure behind one ear with this? Had breast cancer and am afraid of brain mets?!

Sx's outside o brain: So, unrelated to brain. On the other hand, without an exam, I can only give general information, but phlegm and cough can be a sign of beginning pneumonia if they continue. Scary risky if someone's immune system is gone in context of serious chemotherapy/radiation. ...Read more
