How long can plastic retainers last? I have had my braces off for several years now. Also, can they also any respiratory issues?

How long can plastic retainers last? I have had my braces off for several years now. Also, can they also any respiratory issues?

A long time: As long as the retainer fits properly, the retainer can last a long time. The composition of the retainer has less to do with the longevity. The key to longevity is the fit and the patient's willingness to weat the retainer. ...Read more

Can braces make your teeth whiter after procedure? Does the clear plastic braces work as well as the metal? How do braces feel after its on your teeth?

Mixed: Braces do not change tooth color, not cleaning next to braces can damage tooth enamel. Best rx done w metal braces. Clear "porcelain" braces almost as effective. Clear aligners (trays) only about 1/2 as effective as braces, cost more, and the compromised result is less stable. See an orthodontic specialist to discuss what would best treat your malocclusion. Everyone's different. ...Read more

That's dangerous!: You need to get that off ASAP. You could have all kinds of problems hiding under there. About the cost, I would think any self respecting orthodontist would remove it at little or no charge once you sign a release that he/she is not responsible for any mishap in removing it. Be prepared, however, to go straight to your dentist to examine your teeth and gums once it is out. ...Read more

Retainers: Essex retainers are not adjustable as to tooth movement. Hawley retainers are minimally adjustable. If it looks like 1 tooth has moved, many have moved. Correction may require retreatment and then a new retention sequence. Please see a fully qualified Orthodontic Specialist. ...Read more

Can you tell me about orthodontist, bite plate, and braces?

Confusing: What exactly are you asking? An Orthodontist is a Dentist who has completed a 2+ year full time residency in Orthodontics and who limits his/her practice to just Orthodontic treatment. A bite plane may be fixed or removable and is used to move teeth apart to facilitate specific Orthodontic movements. Braces are the gold-standard Orthodontic Treatment Appliance, handles on the teeth. ...Read more
