What does it mean when an ultrasound at 20 weeks is accurate within 2wks?

The ultrasound is usually quite accurate, but it does have a range and the accurate within 2 weeks is just commenting on that. If you combine that with your last period you should be quite accurate. ...Read more

I am at risk for a baby with downs syndrome but ultrasound at 20 weeks was normal with limb lengths. Does this mean chances are my baby is normal?

Maybe not: Have you had any genetic testing done of the baby itself such as chorionic villi testing or amniocentesis? Either of those will give you conclusive evidence of Down's or not. ...Read more

Babies : Babies typically start moving around between 16-24 weeks. If your baby was moving, then it is crucial you let your doctor know if there is a decrease in baby movement activity. It is better to be safe than sorry. Also, going forward, keep a log of baby kicks per day and document them. This is a great way to note any changes in activity. ...Read more

How accurate is ultrasound done at 20 weeks for gender determination of fetus. Is obstretics ultrasound with same accuracy. Same question for 22 wks?

Depends.: My rule has always been: don't guess! if the fetus is in a poor position for viewing the genitals then no determination can be made. At 20 weeks, if the genital region is visible there is a very high level of accuracy for gender determination. It all depends on the skill of the person doing the scan. ...Read more

Generally : Some people try to push the envelope on this and you can certainly look at that time and rule in an abnormality but it would be harder to rule out an abnormality. Best time is between 19-21 weeks for anatomy. ...Read more

Is it too long to wait 20 weeks for the first ultrasound? I had a past miscarriage 4 months ago.

Better view: At 20 weeks more anatomy of the developing baby (fetus) can be assessed. It is a good sign that your doctor has decided that your pregnancy is progressing satisfactorily enough to not request an ultrasound until that time. ...Read more
