Bowel Resection Small Intestine
Does the bowel regain the ability to absorb some nutrients over time, after drastic small-intestine resection or bypass? I heard yes and no.
Yes and No...: The bowel has to be at least enough to absorb nutrients or you develop short gut syndrome. After resection, the remaining bowel will compensate and absorb the nutrients, but like most anything, it can only do it up to a point. Less than 200 cm of remaining bowel risks short gut syndrome. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Constipation following surgery can also lead to the groin pain that has developed. ...Read more

Maybe: Slight bleeding could be from hemorrhoids or other anal condition. Cirrhosis can cause abnormally enlarged veins to occur in the gastrointestinal tract that could bleed. Best not to wonder & best is to contact your own surgeon who performed the surgery to get proper information for your own specific situation & conditions. ...Read more

Side Effects: The answer to your questions depends on the side effects you are having. Small bowel resection can affect stool transit time as well as nutrient absorption.
