Dr. David Earle answered:

Had chemo & debulk surgery for 4th stage ovarian cancer had 2 surgery for bowel obstruct Now have hernia & bowel obstruction Whats My life Expectancy?

Variable

Cancer
While the percentage of patients alive at five years from many stage 4 cancers is low, it is not zero, and you never know which group you are in as an individual. That doesn't mean to ignore the stats, but in the end, you are not a statistic, but an individual. It should be mostly about quality of life rather than quantity for most folks, so don't give up hope, and have an active say in your care.

Dr. Barry Rosen answered:

Can an inguinal hernia cause bowel obstruction?

Yes.

Open-uri20120903-14764-1qww8ta
A hernia is said to be INCARCERATED when a structure within the abdominal cavity gets "stuck" within the hernia. If this happens to be a loop of intestine, this can cause an OBSTRUCTION and lead to the blood supply of the intestine being cut-off; we call this a STRANGULATED hernia. If one has a large, tender lump in the groin that cannot be pushed back in, this requires emergency MD attention.

Dr. Gregg Nishi answered:

What do you suggest if I'm constantly having partial bowel obstruction from scar tissue and a stoma hernia after 4 abdonimal surger.?

Hernia

Obstruction
Well, additional surgery can cause even more scar tissue to form. However, if your bowel obstructions are occurring more frequently and are more severe, surgery may be the only answer. If the obstructions are from the stoma hernia, you should probably get that fixed.

I have been having lower stomach and severe back pain. I was hospitalized for a bowel obstruction. Now I've been diagnosed with two hernias. Are the problems related?

Not sure

Intestine
I am not sure whether you have had abdominal surgery before by your question ,however if you have required surgery before and your hernias are a result of the previous surgeries then your abdominal pain could be related . You need to see your surgeon and that should answer your concerns

How can I treat bowel obstruction?

You cannot

Intestine
Bowel obstruction is a medical emergency and you should go to an ER right away. It can be caused by foreign objects, tumors, serious vascular problems, bowel twisting, or an infolding termed intussecption. These may need surgical intervention and the ER is the point of entry for the next steps.

What is a ?large bowel obstruction?

Intestinal Blockage

Open-uri20120718-30188-qyteon
The large intestine consists of the colon and rectum. Obstruction along any point will lead to upstream dilitation, causing nausea, vomiting, distention; if complete and untreated, rupture may occur. Common causes include cancer of the colon or rectum, twisting of the colon (volvulus), inflammatory bowel disease, and diverticulitis. Treatment hinges upon identifying the cause.

Bowel obstruction how long to heal?

Depends

Occlusion
Did you have surgery to treat the obstruction? Were you hospitalized and treated medically only? Are you describing bowel constipation? Takes 4-6 weeks to recover from surgery. Takes a few days to recover after medical treatment. Would need much more detailed medical information to answer further.
