This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more

Water & fiber: You should drink 8-10 full glasses of water each day, and more if you sweat during the day. Mild dehydration is under-appreciated as the cause of constipation. Next, make sure you increase your intake of natural fruit & vegetable fibers. If this still doesn't work, talk to you doctor about starting an over-the-counter stool softener or glycerin suppository. If blood in the stoll is red, it may be from a hemorrhoid. This needs to be evaluated and treated, but is fairly common.
If the blood or stool is darker (black) and has a 'tar-like' appearance, it is more indicative of a bleed in the upper areas of the GI tract. This is more significant and needs more prompt evaluation and treatment. ...Read more

I feel a lot of pressure on my bottom! Aneed to habe a bowel movement, but I go and only a small amount comes out. And the urge and pressure is still there!?
Might eating very small amounts throughout the day cause very few bowel movements or constipation?
Depends: As long as u include fruits, veggies & fiber it should help. Also u must remain well hydrated. The lower bowel or colon reabsorbs fluid from the toll & if ur body says hey I need water, the colon is going 2 respond by extracting more water & make u more constipated. Well hydrated can b seen in ur urine. If it is dark u need water, hydrate until almost clear. Dietitian consult would b a good idea. ...Read more

Red spots: You would have to ingest a very large amount of watermelon fiber for red objects to appear in the toilet bowl. Do Anal fissures heal on their own? I think I have a small one, it only hurts if you touch it or when I have bowel movements.
Yes, they typically heal on their own. Try to keep the rectal area scrupulously clean. Using a sitz bath after bm can help with that level of cleanliness. Moist towelettes are another option.
Keep bm soft.
Avoid touching with fingers so you can limit the amount of extra bacteria introduced, though that area already has exposure to bacteria from body waste.
Small fissures rarely need surgery. ...Read more
