Hearburn and urge to have bowel movement soon after eating. Gastroscopy into stomach clear and colonoscopy clear. Very fatigued. Any clues what to do?
Start with a: comprehensive medical evaluation to exclude underlying diseases causing fatigue: anemia, hypothyroidism, liver, kidney, heart disease, etc. Symptomatic treatment of the heartburn with antacids, avoidance of spicy foods, OTC H2 blockers or PPIs may help. My husband has a bowel movement less than five minutes after eating and thinks it is ok. I think something may be wrong. Please advise?
Post meal BM: He probably has a very pronounced gastrocolic reflex. When food enters our stomach this stimulates peristaltic intestinal activity, but in some people it is very strong leading to an urgent BM soon after eating. Bowel spasm?: This is not uncommon. You can try cutting back on greasy, fatty foods or whatever food seems to be the culprit for you, and increase the amount of fiber in your diet..
