I had a hysterectomy with a colon cleanse 6 days ago. I still haven't had a bowel movement. Should i be concerned?
Sometimes...: Bloating, irregular stools, and fullness may reflect diet (check your fiber intake), alterations in the population of healthy gut flora we each carry, food intolerances, maldigestion due to problems of the small intestine, pancreas, or biliary tree, changes in GI motility (how well your GI tract mixes and moves food along), various infections, and even irritable bowel syndrome. What would cause colon to not complete bowel movement - retain some and cause bad odor despite clean tpaper? Fix?
Doctor to evaluate: There are several reasons why poop would end up stuck in the rectum, so a primary care doctor or a G.I. Specialist should evaluate. Causes include constipation (slow transit of stool through the intestine), medications that slow the bowel, nerve disorders that slow the bowel, tumors blocking flow of the stool, etc... A patient can use laxatives to keep the rectum clear, awaiting his appointment. ...Read more

Longer, more turns: A "redundant colon" means the dr found it to be longer than usual with more twists and turns. Typically we think that the redundancy is because of problems with constipation rather than the cause of constipation. You should be on a high fiber diet with MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) or similar agent to keep the stools soft and moving through your colon easily. ...Read more

I am not aware: Of any medical condition called floppy colon. Some people have colon that is loosely attached to retroperitoneum and that can sometimes lead to volvulus, or twisting. But these conditions are usually discovered at surgery. As your herbalist what he means, and how he can tell without actually visualizing the colon. ...Read more
It depends : If blood in the stool is red, it may be from a hemorrhoid. This needs to be evaluated and treated, but is fairly common. This is more significant and needs more prompt evaluation and treatment. Seek evaluation by a qualified professional asap to differentiat. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a very sluggish colon. I only have a bowel movement twice a week a lot of the times. What could have happened?
Maybe normal: Normal bowel frequency in america fits a bell-curve distribution--once daily stooling is the middle of the curve, but the normal range extends from 3 bowel movements daily to 1 bowel movement every 3-4 days. Assuming your bowel pattern has been stable for some time (in other words, has not recently changed from daily to every three days) then having two bowel movements/week is "normal" for you. ...Read more
