While recovering after a knee surgery, sleeping off anesthesia, I woke up to a nurse helping me dress, I realized that I had made a bowel movement! Help!

Sh_t happens: While anesthetized, we are not responsible for what we say or what we do. While it is not common to have a bowel movement during anesthesia, it sometimes happens and it is not your fault. It was not pleasant for you, but the nurse considered it nothing unusual. Sometime these things happen.

Intestine (Definition)

The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more

In the evening I have the urge to have a bowel movement but I don't have to go. Why is that?

? examination: You should get an examination of your lower intestinal tract if you haven't. The sensation of having to go without having a bowel movement might mean that there is a polyp or other colon lesion and over the age of fifty it's a good idea to get a colon exam even without symptoms for general screening.

Whenever I have a bowel movement I feel like I haven t completely emptied my bowels, and continually feel like I need to go?

Whenever I have a bowel movement I feel like I haven t completely emptied my bowels, and continually feel like I need to go?

Need some tests: Normal bowel frequency in america fits a bell-curve distribution--once daily stooling is the middle of the curve, but the normal range extends from 3 bowel movements daily to 1 bowel movement every 3-4 days. Testing will define if your incomplete emptying is due to inflammation, rectal/anal dysfunction, partial obstruction due to mass, stenosis, obstipation, extrinsic, or is a functional issue.

Can you have a headache if you haven't had a bowel movement?

Can you have a headache if you haven't had a bowel movement?

Headache: Yes reasons for not having a bowel movement include not eating which can cause a headache, constipation due to not having enough hydration which can cause headache. Regardless you should be regularly going to the bathroom. If your system suddenly changes you should be seeing a physician to figure out why it has changed. Bowel movements are needed in order to get rid of toxins and waste from us.

Had a colonscopy done on Monday. Still haven't had a bowel movement.

Constipation: Not too uncommon after colonoscopy. I would get on fiber daily, stool softener, magnesium and try to get your bowels to move before constipation worsens.

I haven't had a solid bowel movement in almost two months. Should I be concerned?

I haven't had a solid bowel movement in almost two months. Should I be concerned?

Chronic diarrhea: What you are describing sounds like chronic diarrhea. You should see your doc to be evaluated so you can find and treat the cause. Left untreated, this can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances, which can become quite dangerous in some circumstances. Start with your family doc and go from there.

Should I be worried if I don't have a bowel movement for a few days after a colonoscopy?

No: The "transit time" for a normal person's colon (time it takes stool to get from the beginning to the end of the colon) varies from one to several days. Therefore, after you've done a bowel preparation prior to your colonoscopy, and the colon is empty, it may take a few days for stool to make it around to the rectum.

I have not had a bowel movement in over 4 days and can't pass urine well. What should I do?

Go see a doctor: You need to find the cause. This will require a visit to a doctor to check you and find out who you have not had a bm and what reason for your urine problem. If you are eating well then there is no reason to have constipation n of this degree. A visit to the ere may be necessary unless you can see a doctor in 24-48 hours.

Why do I have to have a bowel movement when I get nervous or when I can't get to a bathroom?

Why do I have to have a bowel movement when I get nervous or when I can't get to a bathroom?

Mammal stress call: Many species "relieve" themselves as an initial stress reaction. It makes it easier to flee or to fight without the burden of a full intestine. Psychotherapy may help you learn how to avoid some stress and how to be prepared for it when it has to be dealt with. Your pcp may also have suggestions for diet and medication options. Best.

My daughter haveing bowel movement can't go I need to know what to do cause it hurt her alot.

Constipation: It sounds like your daughter is suffering from constipation. This can be very discomforting. You should encourage your daughter to start drinking more fluids. Water is good. Have her avoid sodas, juices (those are high in sugar contents). Veggies are great. Fruit, too. I would have her retrain her bowels with miralax (polyethylene glycol). Try before bedtime, 1/2 measuring cup at first.

My formula-fed, one month old hasn't had a bowel movement in two days. Should I be concerned?

My formula-fed, one month old hasn't had a bowel movement in two days. Should I be concerned?

Not usually: This can be very normal as long as there is no symptoms of vomitting in excess, very bloated belly and loss of appetite. Yellow to green vomitting needs evaluation immediately. Otherwise on can keep an eye on this. Use of a q tip or glass thermometer with vaseline can help in rectal stimulation.

My daughter hasn't had a bowel movement in 9 days and they have given her everything and today go lightly she is 4?

Follow Dr's program: A pediatrician can write out a program for using various laxatives and the amounts of each, to do a clean-out of the bowels, and then to keep them clear while the bowels "recover" their previous normal behavior. The doctor can examine the child to see what might be the cause of the constipation. Many times, there is no obvious cause, but sometimes there is (such as not-pooping due to anus pain).

I haven't had a proper bowel movement since 2 days ago. Last week I was fine until I ate spaghetti, then I started having these problems.

I haven't had a proper bowel movement since 2 days ago. Last week I was fine until I ate spaghetti, then I started having these problems.

See details: There is no law that says you have to move your bowels every day. Spaghetti had nothing to do withit. It is persists3 or 4 days take a mild laxative but stop worrying.
