Bowel Control (Overview)

Bowel control is the normal condition in which a person (other than a baby) can almost always decide when he wants to poop (have a bowel movement). Loss of bowel control can occur with spinal cord injuries, dementia, overall weakness, severe diarrhea, etc... Without bowel control, poop just comes out at unpredictable times.

Variable: I am not sure what your question means. Damage to the anal sphincter from something like episiotomy from childbirth can cause difficult to control bowel function and loose bowels or bowel leakage. The other condition can be constipation making bowel function decreased. Inflamed intestinal conditions can also cause diarrhea issues and bowel control problems. Prob not: There really should be no negative affect between exercise and bowel control. Many body builders use high protein shakes/bars etc and these can cause loose bowels but still should not have any issue with control. Control issues may be with nerves or rectal muscle weakness. Maybe diet.: Many folks with fecal continence issues can achieve significant improvement without surgery. Foods most likely to cause episodic incontinence or urgency are: milk/milk products (except yogurt), fruits/juices (except bananas), salads/leafy greens, caffeine/chocolate, artificial sweeteners.
