Bowel Cancer Blood Tests
Would bowel cancer alter blood tests? Abdo pain, rectal bleeding and back ache for 12 mnths. Dr won't refer for colonoscopy as I'm 27 + blood test ok
See different doctor: Rectal bleeding warrants investigation. It is unlikely that you have colon cancer and colonoscopy is probably not required, however, you still need to be evaluated for the cause of rectal bleeding. It may be hemorrhoids, even that needs to be treated. If your current doctor is providing satisfactory care, it is reasonable to see another doctor. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. What would blood in the stools look like i have been worrid i might have bowel cancer my stools looks brown but on the tissue it looks a shade of red?
It depends : If blood in the stool is red, it may be from a hemorrhoid. This needs to be evaluated and treated, but is fairly common. If the blood or stool is darker (black) and has a 'tar-like' appearance, it is more indicative of a bleed in the upper areas of the GI tract. This is more significant and needs more prompt evaluation and treatment. Seek evaluation by a qualified professional asap to differentiat. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

19 years old. Change in bowel habits but go everyday. Sometimes blood on toilet paper from known hemorrhoids. Should I be screened for colon cancer?
Not at this time: The incidence of colorectal cancer is very low under the age of 40, and stats for 19-39 years of age for women are 1/1400 and increase dramatically between age 40-50 to 1/140. Unless you have a strong family history of colorectal cancer, you can relax about that diagnosis for now. If you have not been feeling well, experience BM urgency, you should be checked for colitis. ...Read more

Dad had polyps high risk of bowel cancer. I have blood in stool every time I go and mucus. Constant upset stomach. Had sigmoidoscopy but normal .
I just moved my bowels and it was really hard coming out I saw a streak of blood. Worried its colon cancer?
Probably not cancer: blood streaking on a hard bm is more likely related to the local trauma of passing stool. blood mixed inside stool is much more concerning. I would recommend a bowel program using a high fiber diet and a diet supplement like Benifiber 3-4 times a week. When stools are no longer hard, if you still see blood, or if there is a family history of colon cancer then you should have a colonoscopy ...Read more

Constipation: This sounds like its is likely due to an anal fissure or cut that was caused after passing a large hard stool. A colonoscopy may be needed if it continues to be an issue. ...Read more

Likely a hemorrhoid.: First, it's always advisable to let a doctor know if you have blood in your stool. That being said, what you describe is most likely some minor bleeding from a hemorrhoid that was disrupted by the large stool. This can cause a small amount of bright red blood on toilet paper. Keep your stools smaller and softer by drinking more water and have your doctor take a look, but don't worry! ...Read more
