Which steroid?: You are likely to be disappointed with botox. Do you have psoriasis or dyshidrotic eczema or pustulosis palmaris? You may respond to clobetasol gel rubbed in twice a day. Prednisone is very well tolerated if used in small doses never 2 days in a row. Sometimes people learn to take Prednisone when in exacerbation. Typical would be 10 or 20mg M-W-F for only a few doses. ...Read more

Botox works by permanently inactivating the junction between motor nerves and the muscle they innervate. This causes a transient paralysis of the muscle leading to a smoother appearance, or, in the case of temporal headaches, relief from pain. Recovery from the effects of botox, usually in 3 to 4 months depending upon the dose and location, occurs as new nerve endings reconnect to the muscle allowing it it function again. Botox: The active ingredient in Botox (there are a few strands of botulinum toxin on the market now) has just been approved for overactive bladder and has actually been used for quite a few years with great success.
