Swelling of concern: Female, age unstated says, My right foot has swollen on the bottom and is itchy, I have had it for over a day? Did one work outdoors in the garden, on wet ground? Any insect bite? What about other irritants and allergic contacts? Is it painful? Is it red? The swelling is of concern and one should have the MD take a quick look at it to be reassured.

Possible infection: There could be a foreign body in your foot with associated early infection. I would recommend that you have it examined by a physician, in case antibiotics are warranted.

Maybe allergic: Make sure the melatonin you are taking was synthesized in a laboratory, vs being animal derived. Melatonin from animal sources may include contaminants that you might react to. Also, talk to your doctor about this as there can be interactions with medications you may be taking. Also make sure you are taking the proper dose.

Skin: If there is nothing on the skin then it could be neurological in origin. Any prior back or sciatica symptoms are a tipoff.

Hives: Sounds like hives but could be bug bites, bed bugs, tic bites, or a different type of nodule altogether (erythema nodosum). You really need to see a doctor.

A 1000 word picture.: Unfortunately, trying to identify the nature of skin conditions or infections is extremely difficult to do without actually seeing it. Let's face it, a lot of these conditions have the same general appearance. A real time exam or at least several high quality images are necessary for an accurate opinion.

I had my baby a week and my feet are still severely swollen and itchy. How long does it take for the swelling to go down?

Edema: Congratulations on your your new arrival! Lower extremity swelling should improve in a few weeks. Keeping the legs elevated as much as possible and staying well hydrated should help symptoms improve faster. Notify your OB for persistent swelling beyond this.

Stepped on a toothpick, foot is swollen, itchy and red. Should I go to a dr?

Yes indeed: All signs that an infection is developing. This would mean immediate attention. Entrance wounds need to be cleansed and drained. Antibiotics are required to eradicate punter wound infections. Other consideration are the amount of time since injury and tetanus shot status.
