Sore neck: There are a number of possibilities. I would need more history and to be able to do an exam to give a diagnosis. The two most likely etiologies are swollen lymph nodes (from a virus) or thyroiditis. A simple blood test can help sort out the difference. If your symptoms persist, you should make an appoint to see a health care provider.

Lymphadenopathy: Frequently, the lymph nodes respond to local infection or inflammation and are unilateral in the neck when the source of inflammation is on one side. If the node is not resolved after the infection is successfully treated, seel additional medical attention.

Hi. Inner ears ache, sore throat, chills, & sharp pain that radiates from both sides of neck (could be unrelated. Had it b4) ideas? How to treat?

Hard to say: Sensory nerves in the ears, nose and throat are very interconnected. Issues in the ear can cause a sore throat and vice versa. The usual things such as warm salt water gargle, over-the-counter pain reliever are they mainstays of treatment. If no better in 7 to 10 days or worse, see your doctor for evaluation

What does it mean when both sides of the neck and under chin are sore after night of drinking?

What does it mean when both sides of the neck and under chin are sore after night of drinking?

It depends: Alcohol causes dehydration. It also causes lowered inhibitions. Depending on what actions you performed while out drinking you could have strained your neck, you could also be feeling the effects of light dehydration. If the feeling persists, or if you develop a fever or increased pain, see a doctor

Neck/jaw pain &ETOH: Maybe that you had reflux which can be caused by alcohol and that is causing the neck or jaw pain or you were grinding your teeth in your sleep, or slept in an awkward position. Try tylenol, massage. Would also just check for strep and TMJ irritation f/u/ w/ doc.

Lymph nodes: Your might be describing swollen lymph nodes. This should be examined by a doctor. Sometimes the lymph nodes enlarge during infection and other things. Your doctor will ask about travel, family history exposure to chemicals etc. Plan on spending some time there so don't rush. Yearly visits to the doctor are important to discuss health and well being.

I have a cold. My right lymph node is swollen. It's gone down, but now both sides of my neck hurt. Feels like a sore muscle. Is it related?

Lymph nodes: Do you have any other lymph nodes? If so it could be the cold. Check for other lymph nodes. If the cold is getting better try Motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) and warm compresses for the sore muscles and this problem should resolve itself. If you have persistent fevers or chills you may need an antibiotic. See your doctor in that case. You should have a family doctor to do your check ups anyway at 30 yrs old.

Keep losing my voice sore throat and lumps on both sides of my neck?

Pharyngitis: The fact that you're losing your voice indicates a something is irritating your vocal chords (either false or true chords). It may be postnasal drip coming from her sinuses or other bacterial infection. The lumps your feeling on the side of your neck are lymph nodes in your cervical chains or jugulodigastric under the sharp angles of your jawbone.

I have a sore neck on both sides and can hardly turn my head. Nothing else hurts and I had no trauma. Should I be worried? It started with the typical "inside the back of my throat" pain. When that went away after about 4 days I thought it was over. Then

After: After a throat infection, some patients get enlargement of their lymph nodes, causing a sore neck (lymphadenopathy). Advil or tylenol (acetaminophen) and plenty of fluids, and possibly a warm pack, often help. If a patient had headache, fever, feels sick, or has a rash then they should have a medical evaluation, but otherwise the lymphadenopathy usually subsides on its own.

28, Shooting, cramping & squeezing pains in chest, ribs, and breastbone (in both sides) that last a few seconds to a few mins. Same pain by armpits. Area is very tender and back/neck muscles fee sore & tight. EKG, X-ray, stress test ok. Cardiac?

Shooting pains: Sharp, shooting, fleeting pains in the chest, often aggravated by a deep breath, are frequently due to pinching of intercostal nerves or muscles which run between ribs. Are you performing any exercises or activities which put strain on the rib cage? Are you experiencing cramps in other areas of the body? If so get checked for deficiencies of calcium, magnesium and potassium. Discuss with your MD

Could poor posture/computer work cause miserable aching down both sides of neck at the same time? Strong carotid pulse, no chest pain/neuro symptoms.

Yes: There are two muscle groups running on either side of your spine in the back of your neck that cause both neckache and tension headaches. Massage therapist now, better posture next time. :).
