Boric acid prescrip: Boric acid suppositories are available with a prescription. This is not something you want to be doing on your own at home without medical guidance. Your doctor can prescribe this for you. Cervical cancer comes from the sexually transmitted infection HPV. PID comes from STDs such as gonorrhea and chlamydia. ...Read more

BV: Bv and recurrent candidiasis (yeast) can be repeatedly passed back to you by your sexual partner. While being treated for these your partner should be applying appropriate antibiotic and antifungal creams to his penis and you should be treated through one menstrual period. Try this first, but yes, boric acid is safe. ...Read more

Safe, helps prevent: Recent research has shown vaginal boric acid capsues to usually be effective in preventing recurrent BV or yeast. However, it is not recommended (or likely to be effective) in treating an active infection. It is considered harmless. ...Read more

How to get rid of a bacterial infection in the vagina that's been going on for over a year? Tried a Yeast/BV med twice, and am now using boric acid.

Good steps: The key is a proper diagnosis. If BV is the problem then there are a variety of treatment protocols for recurrent cases. One trick is to use Nuvaring for birth control. It stabilizes the vaginal ph to 3.5-5.5 which keeps yeast and BV away. This is a nice and not commonly well known side effect. ...Read more

I have chronic bacterial vaginosis. Antibiotics/ boric acid only temporary relief. How can I perm recolonize my lactobacilli, vag probiotics no good?

Lactobacillus: Make some yogurt at home, dilute it with some sterile water and make it into a douche. Homemade yogurt is full of lactobacillus. I also recommend a product called fem flora from swanson vitamins. It is a vaginal probiotic and I've had really good luck in my chronic BV patients. Also, no undies at bedtime, no thongs, wipe front to back and don't use the tub for hygeine, shower. ...Read more

Can you let me know how many time should I use white vinegar douche to treat bv?

Can you let me know how many time should I use white vinegar douche to treat bv?

Not recommended: Generally douching doesn't work very well to cure a bacterial vaginosis infection. And studies show that women who douche double their chance of getting bacterial vaginosis infections. Likely this is because douching can disturb the normal bacteria that live in the vagina. The presence of your normal bacteria helps prevent vaginal infections. ...Read more

So I believe its BV the inly thing that's worked is h202 as a douche. Can this be harmful I've heard so many different answers for this?

Doubtful.: Not only is it unlikely to be harmful if used in low concentrations, there is controversial data suggesting efficacy against yeast infections. The question is why are you douching? It is really unnecessary since the vaginal fluids drain naturally and should not have a bad odor unless your are infected. ...Read more

What to do about recurring bv. Had it for about 5yrs just got treated last month came back with a vengeance! Is a peroxide douche ok to use?

Bacterial vaginosis: This condition is due to changes in the types and numbers of bacteria that live in your vagina and may be due to changes in the acidity or base content of the vagina. Easily treated with antibiotics. Would definitely not use peroxide douches. See a doctor and have this worked out quickly. Good luck. ...Read more

I think I have bv and I used the hydrogen peroxide douche and it seemed like the odor instantly started afterwards. Maybe it's cleansing itself?

I think I have bv and I used the hydrogen peroxide douche and it seemed like the odor instantly started afterwards. Maybe it's cleansing itself?

No: Douches are just not a good idea. Period. As treatments they are ineffective and they tend to disrupt the natural vaginal bacterial population. This can cause BV rather than treat it. If you think you might have BV, see your doctor to confirm the diagnosis (or not) and get treated appropriately. ...Read more

Is there anything that can be used over-the-counter to treat BV? Douching with hydrogen peroxide?

Not H2O2: Douching is a major CAUSE of vaginosis. Best treatments are prescriptions. Metronidazole. You can get pH balance cream and Miconazole (Monistat) cream OTC. Hydrogen peroxide is in the dust bin of medical history. The only effective application is to bleach hair. Do blonde's have more fun? ...Read more

I been suffering BV now for almost 1 1\2 and is desperate for help it goes away then come back I put a garlic clove in my vagina & been douching h202?

See a specialist.: I'm sorry your symptoms sound so bothersome, but I would avoid self treatment with garlic and vaginal douching. It's important that the cause of your symptoms, the vaginitis, is fully understood. There are many causes and contributors to vaginitis, and BV is just one of many possible causes. This has bothered you so long I would seek the opinion of am experienced gynecologist. ...Read more

Bacterial vaginosis: First things first. How do you know you have BV if you haven't seen a doctor? I'm allergic to both flagyl & clindamycin. Can I use the naturaal remedies such as peroxide douching or yogurt tampons for bv?

Sorry, won't work: Unfortunately, these won't work. And douching, with peroxide or anything else, is a very bad idea, especially for BV. It can flush bacteria into the tubes and increase the risk of PID. Check with your doctor whether truly allergic and could safely take metronidazole or clindamycin. Vaginal boric acid capsues are another possible option. Best to see a doc highly experienced in BV and infections. ...Read more

I was recently on Metronidazole 3 wks ago for BV, got rechecked and still have it. I am a clean person-unscent soap, no douching. Any ideas to prevent?

Recurrent BV...: ...is common, difficult, often very frustrating for both patients and their doctors. It has nothing to do with hygiene or type of soap. Sex often triggers BV and consistent condoms might help. Preventive treatment with vaginal metronidazole (MetroGel®) or boric acid vaginal capsules often is effective. If your doc is unfamiliar with these, find a gyn with interest in infectious diseases. ...Read more

I have been having symptoms of bv or a yeast infection so I tried the method of a hydrogen peroxide douche. Could I get an air embolism from this?

No air embolism, but: ...something doesn't compute. BV and yeast cause quite different symptoms; they are rarely confused with one another. BV symptoms are mostly odor and discharge, without irritation or itching. Yeast mostly causes irritation and redness, with scant white discharge, or none, and little or no odor. Douching with H2O2 (or anything else) is ineffective for both and can be dangerous in BV. See a doctor. ...Read more

Foul smelling discharge 6 weeks pregnant. Smells almost like poop. Clear for STDs but I can't get rid of BV and have tried douching with peroxide?

Get tested: Foul smelling discharge needs to be evaluated. The most common cause is a nonsexually transmitted overgrowth of bacteria called bacterial vaginosis. Testing for other sexually transmitted disease may need to be done as well. Bv is treated with antibiotics. ...Read more
