TSH: Not enough info given You need to have measurement of T4 and T3 (liothyronine) before proceeding. If you are thyroid hormone deficient your doctor will start with a low dose and follow you over time. When treated well possibility of side effects is very low. ...Read more

After taking Armour Thyroid for 6 months at 120mg/day for borderline subclinical hypothyroidism, would it likely be safe to stop cold turkey?

Check with md: It should not be a problem, but at that dose i would go a bit slow instead of stopping altogether at once to make sure your own thyroid "wakes up" and starts to produce thyroid hormone. If you had hypothyroidism (not subclinical) i would be cautious about this as you can become ill stopping thyroid hormone that your body needs (called myxedema). ...Read more

No borderline: There is no borderline, you either have it or you don't. It's like pregnancy and death - there is no borderline. At your age your appropriate lab values are different than the "normal" values your doctor may be looking at. See an endocrinologist. ...Read more
