Boney growths are usually a "reactive" growth, whether from chronic pressure or shoe irritation, or arthritis in a joint causing surrounding boney spurs to grow. Usually these are either padded to shield pressure away from the lesion, or surgical intervention may be performed ...Read more

How to tell if bony growth on big toe base is a bunion, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis or gout/tophi? Only on right foot.

How to tell if bony growth on big toe base is a bunion, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis or gout/tophi? Only on right foot.

See a podiatrist: Go see a podiatrist. Gout would flare up and you have intense pain. Arthritis is due to joint space narrowing which is very possible. Ra 36 yo male not likely and it is on both side, bunion is a possibility. Usually if the bony growth on the side of the big toe joint its a bunion. Top of the big toe joint is arthritis. Podiatrist can tell you exactly what you got and how to take care of it.

Foot injury: You need to stay off your foot for a few days. May be a good idea to get an xray to rule out any bony or joint injury. Please see a podiatrist for further evaluation and treatment.

I have a bony growth on the heel of my left foot; what do I do? It isn't painful.

This would: Depend on what you mean by bony growth. A heel spur by definition is a bony growth. However, it is completely benign and if asymptomatic then it is left alone.

See a foot doc: Have an xray and hear out your treatment options. It sounds like a possible exostosis, node, or hammertoe.

Tailor bunion..: If it does not hurt or bother you in any other way, then leave it alone. Things can always get worse by fooling with it.

A year ago, I had a foot surgery for bony spurs by the pinky toe. It still hurts and it feels as if needles are pricking. Is there a soaking method or a rub that I can apply on my foot?

Needle sensation: Without doing an exam it sounds like a nerve entrapment. It is possible that scar tissue has entrapped a nerve or a nerve was injured. See your surgeon for assistance. Good luck.

I've developed a bony bump on the top of of my rt foot. What could cause that.

A few possibilities: The bump could be a thickening in one of your foot tendons, or it could be a ganglion cyst arising from one of your foot joints. It could also be an area of swelling from trauma. If it does not hurt/bother you, OK to just monitor.

Is bony bump on top of foot ra?

Is bony bump on top of foot ra?

Not necessarily: There are many bumps that people develop on their feet. Many of these are from wear and tear arthritis. Sometimes bumps and other deformities are from systemic diseases such as RA (rheumatoid arthritis). See your podiatrist if you are having pain and issues with a bump on the foot.

I would be concerned: It sounds like you are referring to your navicular bone. The posterior tibial tendon has an attachment by this bone. This tendon is the one that is involved in flatfoot deformities. Do you wear orthotics? the tendon needs to have strain removed from it. Ice the foot or warm water soaks can help but you need to support the arch and take strain off the tendon.

I'm a gymnast and I have a painful, bony bump on the top of my foot. It goes away sometimes but when it is there it hurts to flex, walk and touch it.

Ganglion cyst: Likely this is a ganglion cyst with the history of coming and going. It is fluid pushed out of the joint that forms a cyst. The more inflamed the joint, the more fluid is produced and the bigger the cyst. It can cause tension on nearby nerves contributing to the pain you are feeling.

I have a bony protrusion on my right foot, directly below my bunion. It doesn't hurt but seems to have gotten bigger in the last 6 months. What could it be?

I have a bony protrusion on my right foot, directly below my bunion. It doesn't hurt but seems to have gotten bigger in the last 6 months. What could it be?

Bigger bunion: Bunions can be a progressive deformity, causing misalignment of the big toe, and the bump enlarging and bowing out to the side and bottom side corner. Small bones call sesamoids can mistrack, causing more pronounced symptoms as well as enlargement. See a podiatrist or orthopedic foot surgeon, get an x-ray and discuss your treatment options.

Many possibilities: Some causes of “knots” may include: bony overgrowths, soft tissue masses, ganglions, fibromas, cysts, and infection. Have it evaluated by a professional to get the right diagnosis.

Why do you get slightly swollen or puffy ankles and what can I do for them after I walk? Outside foot under ankle sore on the bony bit. Is better.

Why do you get slightly swollen or puffy ankles and what can I do for them after I walk? Outside foot under ankle sore on the bony bit. Is better.

Swelling: It is normal for women to get some swelling in the ankles over times as the deep veins of the leg become less effective at pumping blood back to the heart. Elevation and ice can help after exercise. Compression stockings can help. If there is also pain present, tendonitis or arthritis can be a cause and should be evaluated by a foot and ankle specialist.
