Popping with sprain: One of the hardest things to do after an ankle sprain is to eliminate the swelling. Deep swelling can linger for an average 4 months post sprain, and this can cause a popping sensation. I like RICE, especially twice daily 15 minute ice packs and once daily contrast bathing. I have screws and plates in my right ankle and i feel something on top of foot that may be a screw or bone fragment i had the surgery last october. Is it possible that it could be a screw? It hurts and aches. It only got worse yesterday when i twisted it.

Very possible: It's not all that uncommon to get painful hardware which if you feel something hard right under the skin it could be that and fairly simple to see on x-ray so see your surgeon. Other possibility is nerve entrapment. ...Read more

3 1/2 weeks ago broke 4th metatarsal nondisplaced. In walking boot. Yesterday walked a lot & today top of foot is sore. Could I have displaced the fractured bone by wearing the walking boot too long?

Unlikely based on: time already passed since diagnosis and you were wearing the walking boot. It justs sounds like you are appropriately sore due to the time on it. If it does not improve with some elevation and rest overnight see your physician is symptoms are bothersome but unlikely anything else needs to be done. ...Read more

They don't: Bones on top of foot do not hurt for no reason. There has to be a reason. There could be the beginning of a stress fracture. It could be from tendonitis. It could be overuse of some other type or could be from an injury such as dropping something on foot but not remembering that you did so. If last over 2 or 3 days, see a podiatrist. ...Read more
