We get o2 by breathing in air that shares o2 with our bloodstream at the lung, and pumped to cells by our heart.
Oxygen is necessary for cells to work. If we do not breathe or do not have our blood pumping this can lessen the amount of o2 we have for cells. Without o2 our cells can die.
