The index is a number that can be in the underweight range, normal range, overweight range, or obese range. Children use different number ranges than adults do, ...Read more

My BMI indicates that I am underweight (bmi is 18.02) should I gain weight?

My BMI indicates that I am underweight (bmi is 18.02) should I gain weight?

You're not a number: The BMI was never intended for use by individuals. If you feel well, are athletic, & keep up with peers at fitness activities, you have no reason to change. Elite track athletes have BMI's like yours. And don't try to gain by eating to gain fat -- a man needs no body fat and a woman needs only a little. Exercise regularly, handle any health issues with your physician's help & weight self-solves. ...Read more

Is this BMI too low ?
What is considered anorexia BMI?

No: As long you are in good health, performing your daily activities, not obsessed with your weight, it is okay. You will gain weight, as you age, do not get too worked up if your BMI goes up to 20 or so. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

How many pounds overweight is considered obese?

How many pounds overweight is considered obese?

By percentage: It is not the absolute pounds, but takes into consideration you height (in the bmi calculation). More useful, at least in the disease process, is the waist/hip ratio, which shows how much abdominal fat one has. Abdominal fat is particularly metabolically active, and thus more dangerous than leg fat (for example). >102 centimetres (40 in) in men and >88 centimetres (35 in) in women are obese. ...Read more

Im 5''4 and weigh 130 pounds. Is that considered fat?

Doesn't sound fat: To me. If you are female 120 pounds =/- 10% is fine (up to 132 pounds). If you are male 125 pounds +/- 10 ;% is ok ( up to 138 pounds). If you have large muscles you could weigh considerable more and not have excessive fat content. ...Read more

Hard to say: You get the most from this site when you provide enough background information for us to give an answer. Requesting that we discuss your BMI based only on your height is impossible. Endura mass for weight gain.. will it affect if i am borderline cholestrol. it says 0 cholestrol yet sugar is present??

What's your goal?: If you are a bodybuilder, you do best to eat plenty of lean protein and otherwise to eat a moderate amount of a reasonably balanced diet, avoiding very sweet or greasy or salty stuff. These 'mass gainers' are mostly glitzy-packaged calories. If you are not in athletic training, there's little need to eat something extra to gain body fat (you need to exercise to gain muscle.) ...Read more

Bmi doesn't account for waist size and muscle tone. Why is it still used? At 5-9 170, i'd still be considered overweight...Ridiculous.

You're right: It is widely acknowledged that bmi doesn't tell the whole story - it's just a guide. It's particulary wrong in muscular, healthy people who have a high bmi but are not fat. Ignore it. ...Read more
