Calories burned, is it all voodoo? HR monitor, Elliptical, and online calculators differ by up to 50%. Is one more accurate? I'm 250 lbs, FFM 180 lbs
Beware the machines: While exercise machines attempt to alert users of calories burned and wattage acheived, the reality is unless in a sport medicine clinic, you probably are not getting accurate results. I am a strong proponent of regular exercise, and then increasing intensity and duration as tolerated. However, it is what you put in your body that is going to make the biggest difference to your fitness goals. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

BMI: The body mass index is equal to the person's weight divided by the square of their height. Ideal body weight will vary with age, sex, muscle/fat ratio, height and bone density. Bmi is only a rough guide of a person's ideal body weight which is usually a range and not an absolute number. Generally a bmi less than 18 is underweight, 18-25 is ideal, 25-30 is overweight and over 30 is obese. ...Read more
130-170 pounds.: By BMI calculations, your weight should be in the 130-170 range to be considered healthy. Granted the BMI is not an ideal index as it doesn't take into account body composition (muscle versus fat) or coincident medical conditions. But that would be your range strictly based on your height. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Post cardio snack? Protein & high on the glycemic index for my advanced strength traing. But what's good post cardio such as 5k 7mph. Fat loss goal
Try drinking water: And not having a snack. If you want to enhance fat burning during cardio, have a cup of tea or coffee about 30 minutes prior to exercise (without sugar or sweeteners). This will help mobilize fat stores and improve endurance during your work out. Iced tea or coffee is good. And if you must have a snack try raw carrots, celery, other vegetables with hummus. BMI & ideal weight are quite confusing!I do strength training.I have lots of muscles huge chest n biceps. My BMI is 34.Is bodybuilding bad for health?
BMI.: Technically speaking, BMI does not take into account body composition, only weight with respect to height. Muscle is more dense than fat, so thinner muscular people can have elevated BMIs. Your best bet would be to interpret your BMI along with a concurrent body fat analysis. If BMI is a bit high and body fat is low, then it's likely fine. Remember, it's just a number. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Weight:height.: The BMI is simply your weight with respect to your height - an overly simplistic and thereby essentially flawed assessment of your health. It's a bit better when used in combination with body fat measurement. Is BMI a good way to determine proper weight? I've heard body fat % is morene accurate. A 5-6 solid muscle guy could be over 200 lbs& considered obese
Both would be best.: The BMI reflects your weight with respect to your height, but as you suggested does not reflect body composition. People who are very muscular could have a higher BMI that would not be truly reflective of their fitness and health. Combining the BMI with a body fat percentage would greatly increase its accuracy. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
