I have blurred vision only in the corner of my left eye. Next steps?

I have blurred vision only in the corner of my left eye. Next steps?

Needs evaluation: Loss of vision in one corner is concerning. First cover each eye to ensure it is from one eye and not say, the left corner of both eyes. This needs to be evaluated by an eye doctor with at the very least a dilated eye exam to rule out a retinal problem. Other tests that may need to be done include a peripheral vision test called a visual field test. If constant or worsening, see someone soon! Read more

Astigmatism: Astigmatism is due to the shape of the eye and is usually present at a young age. This problem sounds more acute to me and I would seek the advise of an ophthamologist at this point. You need a good retinal exam to rule out why the outside corner of the eye is blurred. The fact that you have flashing lights is a retinal symptom and not astigmatism. You may have a retinal tear or detachment and this should be checked asap. It might be vitrerous floaters which is a benign condition, but this is not astigmatism. Ask your gp for the name of a general ophthalmogist and when you call alert the staff to your symptoms. Best of luck. Read more

I watched the eclipse of the sun with bare eyes last week sunday in africa. Since then, have been having blurred vision. How do I fix this?

Exam needed: You should see an ophthalmologist for an examination. You may have damaged the pigment layer beneath your retina within the center of your vision (foveomacular area). An exam can help to sort this out. Unfortunately some people who develop solar retinopathy don't fully recover their baseline vision. Treatment may involve a short course of corticosteroids.
