Blue light therapy acne treatment machines. Helpful or just a gimmick?

Acne treatments: Photodynamic therapy using a topical sensitizing agent and red or blue light can certainly help acne. Non-prescription blue-light devices can possibly help but they probably work only for some of the less severe acne cases. ...Read more

Blue Light Therapy (Definition)

What is blue light therapy? Dermatologists have used blue light in their offices since 2002 to clear acne breakouts quickly and effectively by eliminating the bacteria that cause them. Blue light treatment is a non-uv light therapy, which is gentle on skin and does not cause long-term harmful health effects. Why blue? It penetrates water ...Read more

How long will having blue light therapy take? Had little success with topical forms of acne treatment, so i'm interested in trying blue light therapy.

Everything takes tim: I have seen light therapy be very helpful. Blue light traditionally has reported to be helpfull but perhaps red is showing better results...I personally like yellow...Getting the benefits of blue and red spectrum. But any light treatment has to be rather high intensity....Most of the consumer products are not anywhere near powerful enough. Even more benefits from intense pulsed light (ipl). ...Read more

Does blu light therapy really work for adult acne?

Adjunct: There's some interest in phototherapy as an adjunct to kill the bacteria that cause acne. Feel free to try it, don't spend a lot of money, and continue mainstream rx with topical benzoyl peroxide and whatever prescription-strength rx your personal physician can offer. ...Read more

Would demonologist recommend in-home Acne Clearing Blue Light treatment? I am interested in a product made by Tria.

Unlikely: Although the in-home light is thought to be safe if used as directed, it requires considerable time for minimal to moderate results. You may refer to www.acne.org for more information. Topical antibiotics (if you want to avoid oral meds,) retinoids and benzoyl peroxide have a good track record and multiple research studies to back then up. ...Read more

La mer, mederma, massages, and nothing seems to work for acne scars. Would a laser treatment work?

La mer, mederma, massages, and nothing seems to work for acne scars. Would a laser treatment work?

Fractionated laser : One of the best treatments for acne scarring is fractionated laser. Depending on your skin color, texture and extent of scarring there are different laser options out there. A non-ablative fractionated laser like the fraxel re:store or dual has no real downtime, but requires multiple treatments. A fractionated co2 laser is more aggressive with about a week downtime, but may give faster results. ...Read more

Using an over-the-counter blue/red light therapy mask for acne, 15 min daily, my insomnia has worsened, it is possible its the light therapy?

Poor choice: Phototherapy is at best an adjunct for acne. You deserve better. If topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated has not cleared you in two weeks, get with your personal physician who can add prescription-strength therapy. Acne is a serious chronic illness that needs to be treated aggressively; having visible acne as an adult is a sign of poor self-care. Wishing you the best. ...Read more

Where might I get a phototherapy/ light therapy/ sad light box for a reasonable price?

Shop around: The most important aspect in purchazing a light therapy lamp for sad is to make sure that it emits 10, 000 lux wavelength light band. A year or two ago i did stumble upon one at lowes or menards that was around $30 and specifically had the waveband listed. ...Read more

Which type of laser therapy will you prefer for a 40yr female patient, came with melasma on her face for 8years..tried medicine but not cured.

See a dermatologist: Details matter. You fail to specify any detail about the "medicine". Prescription creams are more effective than laser for melasma. Typical approach is to use sunscreen every AM. At night she would apply a cream combining a retinoic acid, a low strength steroid, a hydroquinone, maybe others. Expect to do this for several months. It is less costly and more effective than laser. ...Read more

In your opinion which at home blue or red light device is most effective for treating acne?

Get real Rx: Acne is a serious, chronic disease that can be managed somewhat with topical benzoyl peroxide but usually requires prescription meds, which are fairly cheap and generally well-tolerated. There's interesting work on colored light working on porphyrins in the acne bacteria, but by no means should this be considered mainstream or more than an adjunct for scientific rx of this cruel disease. ...Read more

Does led light therapy work for acne?

Does led light therapy work for acne?

Yes, if used w/ ALA: Photodynamic therapy (pdt) will help reduce sebaceous gland oil production and improve acne flares. It's effective if used with alpha-aminolevulanic acid (ala), a prescription topical agent applied by your doctor before activation by the led light. This usually requires a series of 3-4 treatments. This procedure, unfortunately, is generally not covered by insurance. ...Read more

Which is better for shrinking sebaceous glands (oily face): blue light or laser treatment?

Sebaceous glands: Neither treatment is specific for sebaceous glands. A co2 resurfacing laser (or dermabrasion) can destroy the tops of the glands, but is an aggressive treatment. Individual glands can be shaved flat for cosmetic purposes. Accutane therapy will shrink sebaceous glands but needs to be carefully monitored by your dermatologist with blood tests. ...Read more

My facial redness doesn't seem to improve with rosacea medications. Is light therapy a better rosacea treatment?

My facial redness doesn't seem to improve with rosacea medications. Is light therapy a better rosacea treatment?

Light therapy may be a better choice if you have tiny visible blood vessels (telangiectasia) on your face: Two options are pulsed dye laser and intense pulsed light therapy. Studies show that light therapy may reduce the appearance of: Facial redness, Flushing, Telangiectasia on the nose and cheeks. Light therapy involves repeat treatments to maintain improved skin appearance. Side effects are usually minimal. They can include temporary redness, loss of skin color and bruising in the treated area. More research is needed to determine how long the light therapy treatments are effective for rosacea and what the long-term risks might be. If you experience persistent rosacea, talk with your doctor to see if light therapy is an option for you. ...Read more

Pain with Acne Light: It depends on whether levulan chemical is used. The chemical will make it more uncomfortable, but probably make the treatment work better. Blue light acne treatment? What is it? Is it expensive?

Many uses: Blue light (and red light) is a part of a treatment called photodynamic therapy. It uses light and a topical chemical (aminolevulenic acid, ala) to treat many conditions. Acne is just one. Ala soaks into the skin and the light activates is. "bad cells" or acne related bacteria are then selectively destroyed by the light activation. Beyond that i would discuss with a dermatologist. ...Read more
